hi,
Please can anyone look up the baptism of
Jonathan ROE b c1789 Linchemre Surrey.
I would love to know who his parents were and if he had any siblings?
Many thanks in anticipation,
Sarah :)

If this is
Linchmere in Haslemere Surrey I can check the Haslemere Parish records for you next time I go to the archives which should be this week sometime

Ooh Tricia, that would be fantastic :D
Yes it is. He is where my tree stops and I can't seem to get any further on the net :(
That is all the info I have (although I don't know that it is correct as I don't know where they got it from). As I said, I'd love to know who his parent/s were or if he had any siblings.
I am so grateful to you! That's very kind :D

I'll do my best :)

Sorry!! There's no pressure at all, I just mean I'm grateful to you for looking / offering to look :)
-
I know what you mean - no pressure for me at all ;)

Cool :) :) :)

Sorry, I couln't find a baptism for Johnathan under Roe or Rowe up to about 1792.
Where did you get these details from?

They're on a family tree I was left by grandparents - I'm not sure who did the research or how they did it; I guess it was between 60's / 70's maybe but there are no sources or anything, just a typewritten tree with him at the top...
Thank you soooooo much for looking though - I really appreciate it.
Not sure what to do now though!! need to go back to William his son again I guess, but he is proving even more problematic than his father!! (see other threads)
Thanks again x

Hi :)
I'm still stuck with Jonathan Roe!
I had previously worked back through the line and am certain up to his son's marriage. I couldn't get a birth cert for his son. Jonathan is in the 1841 census at the right age for being born in 1789 (if that is his birthdate) living with a Susannah (which is what I had) with the children I also had, but I can't seem to find Jonathan's birth records or marriage records anywhere!!
Can anyone help me please? i'm not sure what to do next...
I've just lost my job so can't afford to order certificates but desperately want to find out more about him.
Any help extremely gratefully received! :)

Perhaps the reason I couldn't find his birth in Surrey is the fact that there appears to be a Linchmere in Sussex and on the 1841 the family is living in Linchmere Sussex.
I googled Linchmere and found one in Sussex and one in Surrey so unless I am confused perhaps it may be an idea to post his birth details on the Sussex board and see what happens
Tricia ??? ???

Interesting now. There is a record extracted from parish records on FamilySearch which just may be your Johnathan which suggests he was illegitimate
JONATHAN ROE
Christening:
30 AUG 1789 Linch, Sussex, England
Parents:
Mother: SARAH ROE
No father's name given

:o :o ohhhh, 2 Linchmeres!! oooooh - I hadn't realised that and had stupidly assumed there would only be the one....silly me!
Hmmm, well the date matches on family search doesn't it...if he was illegitimate will I still be able to go back any further or will that now prove difficult?
Thanks sooooo much for your help Tricia :)
Off to post it in Sussex!!

...though have just looked on Googlemaps and it lists 2 Linchmeres but being the same one; one listed as Surrey and one listed as West Sussex - perhaps it's more of a boundary change thing??? Oh, it's so confusing! ???
-
I know - very confusing - but if it says Linchmere Sussex on the 1841 perhaps that's where we should look for his birth - someone on the Sussex Boards may help..
Maybe I missed it in the Surrey Parish records as in the early parish records the illegitimate births were not written in sequence with the others and I can't remember from June exactly where I checked They are also almost impossible to read. Or perhaps it is in Sussex Parish records - I don't have access to them
I think the birth on IGI must be him though
Tricia ??? ???
-
I think the IGI must be too Tricia, though Little Nell has just come up with a Jonathan Roe baptised in Bramshott 30 Apr 1756... with parents John and Jane and noted as of Pitfold. Could be related? It's 33 years before the Jonathan I think I'm looking for, so could be his father? Is 59 too old to be a father in those days?!? Doesn't explain the IGI record though.
Hmmmm....think I shall be counting Roe's tonight instead of sheep!!
??? :)
