Title: Tierney (Turney) Drogheda
Post by: jaymac on Monday 23 June 08 09:02 BST (UK)
Hello all

I am looking for a marriage record of an ancestor of mine. And wonder if some kind soul can help me find it !
The 1881 census in Liverpool has James Tierney (Turney) born ca 1839 Drogheda and his wife Mary born ca 1842 Drogheda. I know Marys maiden name was Connolly from subsequent birth certificates of their children all born in Liverpool, the oldest born 1861.

So i am looking for a marriage between James Tierney and Mary Connolly in Drogheda sometime before 1861

Any help would be fantastic

Regards John

As the date is before civil registration of marriages in Ireland the only place you will find the marriage is in church records (of they exist). To do so you need to know the family's religion and where they lived and then see where the church records are and if they cover the dates you need. The information in the church register will not be what you get on a certificate and may vary from place to place or according to date.
Try searching LDS catalogue online at www.familysearch.org to see if they've microfilmed the records you need. If so they can be ordered from your local LDS library for a small fee to be viewed there.

You could also look at the Irish Family History Foundation site at http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/index.php. You will have to register but this is 'free'. Then go to co Louth on the map and put in the surnames only of each party to the marriage. You can then go throught the list of parishes to refine the possibilities. I could find 3 Mary Connolly's in Drogheda but no James Tierney's.

The other possibility is that they may have married at St Mary's, Drogheda which is on the other side of the R. Boyne in Co Meath. Unfortunately the records for Meath are not on line yet.

If you wish to look at the record is will cost you €5.00!!!
