Post by: janet62 on Saturday 21 June 08 18:18 BST (UK)
Hi   wonder if anyone  has John Forrest in their tree the first time I find he is in 1841 census although name spelt wrong 75% certain it is him
john born about 1830/5 Blarney Ireland    Frances his wife  census says Macroom Ireland
John is my grt grt grandfather and my grandfather always thought John came from Macroon but as Frances did can see where it came from

On their M/c states Frances is Frances Connell  father Jeremiah and Johns father is called Denis

sorry no Forrests but hope this is of use to you- perhaps you already have it?

Griffiths Valuation (1850 ish) has a Denis Forrest Knockacorbally Garrycloyne civil parish (as Blarney town is) and also a few Jermiah Connells but only one for Macroom- Main Street

Hello Janet,

There are several Forrest families in Blarney who have been there for several generations and I think that they are all related.  Denis and John are family names so chances are that these might be the family you are looking for.

I don't know how many of them are left there as I left Blarney a long time ago but there were three farming families on the outskirts of Blarney, the postoffice used to be run by a Mrs O'Leary who was originally Forrest and there is a hotel in the village called "Blarney Castle Hotel" which is owned by John (johnny) Forrest.

Why don't you send them an email to see if they can help.

Janet62 - I am of the Blarney Castle Hotel Family and have done some Forrest research. I know of the John who was baptised in 1830 and may have information of interest.

Why didnt you say on the BBC thread over the last few days that you already have all of this Blarney information?  It really is a bit annoying and timewasting for people who are spending time trying to help you.

hi john  the information came so fast I didnt have much time to think  but my actual question was  about him being called Denis in census but can find no record  of birth or death  sorry if it annoyed you  but was still grateful for help as  all information I have collected on family was destroyed and have had to start again

Hi Janet/John  :)

I'm descended from a Denis Forrest of Hollyhill, Cork.  I transcribed all entries from the Whitechurch Parish records between 1827-1845 which contained the name Forrest if its of any interest (including a John baptised 1830).

Would love to share (ie. pilfer  ;)) info on the family.

Regards,
Simon
Wexford.

Hi Simon  I am interested if same one. all I know is on census1850 is My grt grt grandad John Forrest (Blarney)  and his wife frances ( macroom ) It seems from my english records if correct that they married much later than this 1862 and on this certificate states his father denis Forrest farmer and hers jerimiah connell farmer
the family always thought john came   from macroom but leant later forrest is not a name known
have been sent quite a bit of interesting history of the forrests in blaney  but have never been able to prove 100%  would like to hear more  kind regards janet

Hi Janet62
I know this post is years after your original message - so sorry, I have only just seen it.

I think we are from the same family... please see my attached family tree jpg.  The John Forrest at the bottom was my grandad.

Best wishes
