Does anyone know where this area is/was?  Inner Glasgow I think, but am not sure.

Hello

Welcome to Rootschat.  In the absence of a 'local' providing info.  The following link should give a clue.  The description is under the image.

Maryhill is in the north part of Glagow and the home of Partick Thistle Football Club. There are parts of the canal still in use today.

Kelvindock was the name of an area at the top end of Maryhill. It was part of the Forth and Clyde canal and at that point the water was 156 feet above sea level. the area was known as Kelvindock long before "Maryhill" became the more common name for it. There was a small boatyard there, owned by David Swan. There is little left of the original tenement buildings apart from the Kelvin Dock public house, a favourite haunt of an uncle of mine. Last time I went past, it had closed down (perhaps my uncle is still haunting it!). It used to be part of a huge terrace of 4 story tenement buildings when I was a lad, but the whole thing was demolished years ago and the pub left on its own.
Kilmun Street was up that way, it was almost totally destroyed by enemy action during WWII with great loss of life.

Lodger.

The subject of this thread attracted my attention because I had an uncle who frequented the Kelvin Dock pub.  He's probably haunting it along with your uncle  :)

(sorry to drag up an old thread, just catching up)
