Title: llandderfel,bryn derw
Post by: slothbear on Sunday 15 June 08 21:54 BST (UK)
I'm looking for information on a farm, bryn derw in Llandderfel,
From the 1841 census I see it was a 31 acre farm
and my ggggrandfather David Roberts lived there.

In 1881 it was still  home to the Roberts family, could any one help me find out more information or does anyone know of any information about the farm or the Roberts family

Hi  :)

It might be worth you going to the National Archives site at Aberystwyth and doing a search of the on line records there:

Hi, I've just seen this thread from back in 2008 ! My g-g-grandmother was a Margaret Roberts who married a Robert Jones. According to some 3rd cousins of mine who live in the area, Bryn Derw was associated with Margaret's family. Personally I remain to be convinced and need more evidence but I'll see what I can get from my cousins.

Gordon.

Hello Gordon..
Great to here from you ..
I would be very interested to hear back from you and any information you have how ever small ..
I will have to look at my file and see if I have her in my tree , I imagine I will have ..
which generation is she from ??
Off the top of my head I think the roberts family lived there from 1810s could of been earlier to maybe 1920s but not 100% .
Anyway after ten years of writing this message it is fantastic to hear from you .
Look forward to see what information you have .
Kind regards

I know this is an old thread revived, but I have located Bryn Derw if you haven't found it yet Ian:

It still exists which is nice.  :) Unfortunately the google van did not drive close enough for us to have a look at the place on street view.

You can scroll around and zoom in and out of the map.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread. Sorry it's taken a while, but I've been having quite a dialogue with cousins.

So as far as my family is concerned, we're not connected with Bryn Derw. I have however been exchanging emails with someone who does have a connection. He has a Margaret Roberts in his family who married a Robert Jones and his Roberts family were the one at Bryn Derw. One of the differences we identified that his Margaret Roberts was born around 1829, whilst my family's Margaret was born around 1825-1826.

Let me know if you would like more information.

Regards, Gordon
