Search the Ed's description until you get to institutions usually.

also search back from 1881 residents/officials by name & age.

Hi

Bridgend was in Newcastle and Coity. In 1871 there is a separate District (Newcastle Bridgend) that is just the asylum.

The Union Workhouse is in Coity District 4 in 1861 and 1871.

Just to clarify, if you use A***try:

* go to the appropriate census year
* scroll down until you find the list of counties
* select Glamorgan
* select Newcastle/Newcastle Bridgend or Coity
* click on the appropriate enumeration district (the ones that I mention above)
* then browse through the pages

Bridgend Asylum is now called Pen y Fai, maybe its under that name.
The workhouse was in Coity.
