Title: Sheriff Hill Asylum
Post by: feinstein48 on Saturday 07 June 08 19:24 BST (UK)
In the 1871 census some of my ancestors are shown as residing in the Sheriff Hill West Side Asylum. Does anybody have any information about this Asylum? My searches have revealed nothing.

Inicky,

The quote which Barbara gave was taken from Whellan's Directory of 1856, when, presumably, Sheriff Hill really was two miles distant from Gateshead.
