Can anyone tell me if there's an online will index for Lincolnshire? :-\
If, as I expect, there isn't - will Lincs RO do look ups in the index to see if someone left a will? Any idea of the costs involved?

Here is an outline of their services http://microsites.lincolnshire.gov.uk/Archives/section.asp?catId=6640

Thanks, Geoff.
At £7 a chuck for "a specific search within one source" for ancestors who I don't know for sure left a will - I think I'll pass!!
Thanks anyway.

Findmypast had a searchable probate index, i haven't used it for ages so couldn't tell you what the coverage is like but i did get a couple of Lincoln rellies listed for dates around 1900 or so.
I believe you can search without credits but the results just show how many entries there are for the surname, as said above it has been a long time since i looked.

Hi Jill
Around what sort of dateline are you looking at? I have the 1801-1858 index of Wills for Lincolnshire. Happy to lookup some names up etc if it fits in with your requirements.

Glen - I had a look on Findmypast but couldn't discover anything - but thanks anyway.
Boosh, thanks for the kind offer. My Lincs connections are Blackb(o)urns.
William Blackburn was baptised 1752. I don't yet have a burial date for him but it would likely have been within your timescale (1801-58). His last child was baptised in 1794 and the family lived in Boothby Graffoe.
There is also a slight chance that Thomas Barsley may have lived into the 19th century - he would also have been in Boothby Graffoe or possible Digby.
Likewise, William Blackburn's father, Richard might just have made it into that century (I find it difficult to find burial dates in Lincs as you may have gathered!). Richard Blackburn lived in Navenby.
I'd be really grateful if you could check to see if any of the above are in your Index.
Thanks,
Jill

:)
Maybe of interest

Wm Blackbourn, Welbourn LCC wills 1836/30
Wm Blackbourn, Temple Bruer, LCC wills 1823/35
Robert Barsley, Holdingham, LCC wills 1837/24

:) :) :) :) ;D ;D ;D
Wm Blackburn buried Temple Bruer (just up the road from Boothby) 21 July 1823 age 77
Richard Blackburn buried Waddington ( just up the road from Harmston) 13 Feb 1818 age 37
No Barsley in this area
Barry

:(
The only Thomas Barsley's buried in all parishes in county 1813-1900 - one in Boston aged 4 mth, and one in Grimsby age 8 mth.
Don't think these are yours!!

Lincolnshire Archives have downloadable Indexes 1701-1800
and sell a disc which indexes LCC Wills 1801 to 1858 and Stow Wills 1700-1834 and LCC Will 1858-1910 as I have all of these.
Happy to check out the odd few

Thanks for the info about the downloadable index on Lincolnshire Archives, Jacky. I'll have a go at that tomorrow - there's quite a few separate items and it took me a while to find, but I got there in the end!
Beady and Boosh thanks for the look ups - a plethora of possible Blackburns! ;D I suppose the only way to find out if they're mine is to order them and see!
From his age, I'm pretty sure that the Richard Blackburn will of 1818 could be one of my William's sons - so might mention his brother Thomas, my ancestor. Infact, all the Blackburns you've given me could be mine!
I'll probably request Lincs Archives to copy them all for me - and hang the expense!
Thanks all,
Jill

Sorry to jump in on your post Jill.
Can one who has the indexes tell me if there are any Gash's & Petch's listed? I've been thinking about buying them from LFHS & if I know my names are there i'll get them.
Cheers

Is there anything for two of my rather uncommon Lincs surnames:
Thickpenny
Ossingbrook (Ossenbrook or even Ozinbrook!)
Jill
-
Hi Boosh & Jacky
Thanks for the Gash & Petch info, will see if any of them are mine.
Cheers
Jay

Hi Jill
;D ;D ;D
Mark Osinbrook. Place - Upton. Stow wills 1798 - 1801/241
Nothing for your width challenged coin (thickpenny)
Barry
-
Jay - it's very nice to be able to provide information for once, I'm usually asking for assistance!
Good luck with your research
Boosh
-
Thanks for that, Barry.
Unfortunately, I don't think Mark Osinbrook's mine but it might give me an idea as to where the Ossingbrooks came from. I have Mary Ossingbrook baptised in Navenby 1729 d/o Joseph who married in Harmston 1718. Before that - zilch!! :'(

Unfortunately, out of all the Cocketts in my tree, there are none with the names you have found, however, I'll do some further research and keep details of the wills to hand, in case I find a connection.

Can anyone tell me if there is a will for a John Savage died Surfleet 1836.
Was a schoolmaster and widower at the time, from the info. that I have found so far he had 5 children, 1 in the workhouse in 1841, 3 employed and 1 with grandmother and was considered a drunkard and womaniser after death of wife in 1829.
So not holding much hope that he had anything to leave.
-
Hi Beckey
I think John Savage may have been a bit too cheery from the drink to have written one, he doesn't appear on the index I have. :(

Thank you, the last info. I had they were trying to sell his furniture
