Title: Location Query

Hi all,

While researching a new family line I came across the following location given as the birthplace for my John COSTELLO.

Borraschill, Tipperary, Ireland

I can't find any location with this name, but given that the name was written down in New Zealand in the mid-late 1800's, the spelling is likely to be somewhat suspicious.

Does anyone recognise the name and know where it is or have any ideas of what it should be?

I think the most likely one may be Byrneskill in the Civil Parish of Coolmundry Poor Law Union of Cashel Barony Middlethird.
It is situated about two miles southeast of Fethard town.
Other possibilities may be
Borris in Roscrea CP and PLU Barony Ikerrin
Borris in Twomileborris CP and PLU Thurles Barony Eliogarty
or Borrisbeg Templemore CP. Thurles PLU and Barony Eliogarty

You might also consider Borrisokane.

Griffiths Valuation has a record of one Patrick Costello(e) living in the townland of Rathmore in the parish of Borrisokane, so there were certainly Costellos in the area.

Tipperary North Riding.
Parish Borrisokane
Barony Ormond Lower
Townland Rathmore
Land-Lord was Richard Nash.
 I could not find any Costello's in Byrneskill Coolmundry. Lep

Thank you for being so thoughtful as to look up that information for me and provide such wonderful detailed information at that!

It does seem to point to Borrisokane as being the front runner as the home parish of my John Costello. The name Patrick also keeps coming up in the later family line as a middle name so the Patrick in the 1852 Valuation may well have been a brother or father to my John.
