Hi Hotdog
There is only one birth of a Grace Lawson in Glasgow City area, a couple of years earlier:
GRACE AIRD LAWSON Born 30 JUN 1863 in Calton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: DAVID LAWSON and MARGARET EWING

Thanks Monica, Could be her, I have her in the 1901 census under her married name of Kerr, her date of birth was stated as 1866, but that 's not always the case, as past info has shown. I will send for her marriage cert and then I should hopefully have her fathers name. Many thanks for your help.

Was her marriage in England? You might also get some clues in the meantime from the names of her children if she called them after her parents.

Hi Monica, I believe they married in Scotland, no proof on that yet ,her husband was a Peter Kerr born 1864 Bishopbriggs, they had 3 children in 1901 census Grace, Mary, & Peter, not to much to go on.

Hi Hotdog
I can't easily see the marriage for them on SP. They were together in 1891:
Peter Kerr 27, Railway Carriage Inspector, b. Bishopbriggs
Grace Kerr 25, b. Glasgow
Margaret Kerr 2, b. Springburn, Lanarkshire
John Kerr 1 Months, b. Stirling
Address: 12 Bayne Street, Stirling
If Margaret above was first born daughter, would fit for the birth of Grace in 1863 with parents David and Margaret. If you look at one of the children's birth certs. on-line at SP, it will include a place and date of marriage for the parents (if married).
This looks a likely entry for Peter's birth from IGI:
PETER CARR Born 11 MAY 1863 in Cadder, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:JOHN CARR and MARGARET WILSON LOVE

If you are struggling on finding the marriage, you also have the option of looking at Grace's death cert on line at SP (for £1.20 much cheaper than ordering an official extract at £10).
There is a death in 1950 of a Grace Lawson/Kerr in Stirling aged 87 (born 1863). Scottish death certs. include parents' names including mother's maiden name and also husband's name and occupation (and whether spouse was alive or deceased).

Thanks Monica for all that info, I have registered with SP so I will have a go and see what I can come up with, like you say the death cert maybe the way to go, as I am having no luck with the marriage cert, thank you again.

IGI also shows
PETER KERR born 16 Jul 1897, Stirling died 26 Mar 1971 St Ninians, Stirling. Parents were Peter Kerr and Grace Lawson.
Peter born 11 May 1863 Cadder West, Lanark
married
Grace Lawson on 2 Dec 1887 Glasgow (so the marriage may be registered on SP in 1888)

IGI shows death Grace Lawson 13 July 1950 marriage Peter Carr 2 Dec 1887 Lanark, Scotland
and Peter Carr born 11 May 1863 Cadder West, Lanark, died 14 January 1922.
Searched SP with Peter Carr Grace Lawson, nothing- but put in just his forename and Grace Lawson 1887 and their is 1 view so think the surname for Peter has been transcibed differently

Hi Monica, Can I just ask you a couple of questions re SP credits, having never done this before, what do you get , is it a printable copy ? I 'm going for the death cert as I think that's the best bet.
Many Thanks Hotdog

You get to view on line a scanned copy of the entry from the register. You can then save it on to your hard drive and print off :)
From the posts by Seekthem and Kate B, it would seem someone has been researching this family line and submitted their info to LDS (family search). Hopefully you will be able to verify these events on SP.

I've checked on SP for the marriage, no wonder I couldn't find it even with a search for Peter under *RR (to pick up on spelling variations.
You will find the marriage indexed on SP as:
1887 - PETER KEER and GRACE LAWSON in BLYTHSWOOD, GLASGOW CITY
In your position I would start by viewing this one. It will contain info provided by the bride and groom (rather than informant at death where you are dependent on them knowing all the correct info - not always the case ::)) and in one certificate you will be able to confirm the names of both Peter and Grace's parents.

Hi Monica, I have found Grace Kerr nee Lawson on SP death cert, now have her parents, also have found 3 other people I was looking for, what a great way to be able to get cert's , so much better than the normal way, I am really delighted, many thanks to you all for pointing me in the right direction, you are all so helpful, and it is very much appreciated.
Best Wishes Hotdog

That's great, glad you found what you needed :)
SP is a great way of getting Scottish BMDs immediately and cheaply....never mind that they also have a lot more info on them than others. The only thing to watch out for now Hotdog is that it can become addictive ;D

I have an extensive Lawson family tree, going back to the birth of William Lawson (1763) who married Agnes Dissentin, with whom he had 8 children. There are a number of "Grace Lawsons" in this family tree. One was Grace H. Lawson, born 1867 (d. 1902) to parents Robert Lawson (b. 1828 d. 1912), and Janet Muirhead (b. 1828 d. 1884). She had 6 siblings: Elizabeth, Robert, William, James, Jessie and Archibald (for whom I suspect my father was named (my father - Archibald Lawson Reid (b. 1916 d. 1996). My chart shows no marriage or children for her. I also show Grace Florence Lawson (b 1895) who married P. Thornton in 1915, and her mother was also named Grace (nee Mann) - Grace Mann married Daniel Lawson in 1887, so may well have been born in 1866-67. Post a note if you want to hear about more "Grace Lawsons" on this family tree.

Linrob: I'm a novice to Rootschat, and haven't really figured out how to use the system. I tried to open the message in my hotmail account, but it didn't seem to work, and I've printed your posting detailing your ancestors. Now I'll go and lay out the family tree on the floor (it's quite big, and lives rolled up in a tube that came from my grandmother) to I can see where your family fits.
Thanks for the contact, SusieQ1
