Hi everyone,
I am trying to find information about my grandmothers parents and grandparents if anyone out there can help please.
I would like ANY info I can get on
William Alfred Couch. b: 25 October 1894 in Birkenhead, NZ
His parents were
Charles Nicholas R Couch. b: 1871 Thames NZ
Rose Campbell Smith. b: 1869 Aukland NZ
William's wife was Ruby Jones but I know they divorced and she returned to Australia.
Thank you so much for any help I can get to find out info on these people.

Hi Michelle :)
Quite a lot of information available for your family.
> Chas. Nicholas Robert COUCH - died 19 October 1949
> Rose Campbell COUCH - died 21 April 1952
Cemetery records available at -
http://www.northshorecity.govt.nz/
> William Alfred COUCH
There is a record at Purewa Cemetery (Auckland) - shows date of service as "5 March 1974" for William Alfred COUCH.
http://www.purewa.co.nz/
However there is also a record for a William Alfred COUCH (died 1974) at North Shore (see earlier cemetery link). I think this is probably the record for the person of same name who was cremated at Purewa - the North Shore record looks like it is a burial of ashes. (Further information is able to be obtained on the North Shore website).
Archives New Zealand (Auckland Office) holds a probate record (which should contain a copy of will) for William Alfred COUCH of Northcote, dated 1974. At Archives NZ (in Wellington) there is a military record for a "William Alfred COUCH" (possibly the person you are looking for ?).
http://www.archives.govt.nz/
The NZ Marriage Index shows the following : -
> Charles Nicholas Robert COUCH
Rose Campbell SMITH
Year - 1892 [Folio # 0062]
> William Alfred COUCH
Ruby Evelyn JONES
Year - 1916 [Folio # 4519]
[Archives NZ also hold a divorce record (1930) for a William Alfred COUCH (wife's name not stated) ... there does though, seem to be a viewing restriction on this file] :
Good luck with your search.

Thank you so much for all that wonderful information. It looks like I will need to make a trip over to New Zealand in order to look at all those records. They are definitely him as he was in the army. I would love to get hold of that probate package - they so often have interesting information in them.
I guess I will need to also buy the death certificates for Nicholas and Rose now to find their parents names. Very exciting that I now know their deaths.
Lu and Althea - thank you again for your help!!

the marriage cert for Nicholas and Rose will have all the info, :)

There are 2 Couch's in Thames if you look at the mining site, so either may be the father.
You can ask someone if they are going to archives to lookup the probate records for family details or archives will do so for a small fee.
Yes you will need to buy the certificates if you want that info we can't look that up

Remember papers past
there appears a possible match for your Charles, if Charles is the father 1870 in a courtcase Thames

Hi Steve, and welcome to RootsChat ;D
The original poster of this topic hasn't been online for several years. In the hope that they are still living I have sent them a Personal Message (PM) advising them of your reply to the topic.
In the meantime you could reply twice to this topic which will activate your own PM facility. This will allow you to send a PM directly to the original poster and to the member who posted above you, Vaux. Even a couple of smiley's will do. ;)

Hello Steve,
I haven't been on here for a long time unfortunately but I am happy to share information if you would like to tell me exactly what you need. Vaux above would seem to actually be a relative of yours if you can get contact with her as her husband must be your uncle?
William Alfred Couch was my great grandfather but he divorced my great grandmother and she returned to Australia where she had been born. They had three girls together. I know that he remarried through my contact with vaux above but I will need to dig out some records to find out who to - I'm assuming your Ella Joy :)
Talk to you soon hopefully to share out stories.
Cheers

Welcome back, Chell. ;D
Here is a link to explain the Personal Message (PM) system to Steve.
http://www.rootschat.com/help/pms.php
In brief, if Steve makes another two posts to this topic he will be able to send and receive PM's.
The easiest way to do this is to look for the scroll icon to the left of every post, below each member's online name. Clicking on this will open a PM message box. Once you send the message the recipient will also receive an advisory email.
Another useful tip is that if the scroll is green the member is online.

Hi
I have a William Alfred COUCH in my Tree. I believe he married Ella Joyce ELSON (born 21 Aug 1914 Nelson, died 9 Sep 1992 Whangaparoa) about 16 April 1938 in Tasman. I had met Ella's mother as a child, as Ella's mother was a cousin of my mother.
Ella's grandmother was Susan Lempriere FISHER (nee MOORE) - born 10 Aug 1860 in Spreydon, Christchurch and Ella's grandfather was Arthur John FISHER (my grandfathers brother) (born 28 Mar 1861 - Heathcote Christchurch - died 8 Mar 1945 in Blenheim, and is buried in the Omaka Cemetery, Benheim). Ella had a brother Edward John ELSON (born 16 Jan 1913 in Blenheim, and died 15 Jun 1997 in Australia), whose family moved to Melbourne Australia - I do have details of most of this Australian Branch.
As far as the Couch family goes the only detail I have of William and Ella's children are: (I am unsure as to the acurracy of this but what I have is:
(*) born about 26 Aug 1939
(*)born about 25 Jan 1942
(*)born about 12 Jan 1947.
I would like more detail on these 3 children in exchange I can provide further information on Ella Joyce's ancestors, and her Australian connection.

Sorry about trying to publish possible people living, as this was the first use at this site. However the first and second (*) was a person who was mentioned in a previous message by another member and she died in 1992, and the brother referenced in the third (*) died in 1997, and he would have been over 100 by now. The last 3 (*) are people who could still possibly be living, so I apologise for those.

Hi Eric,
I removed the names as it wasn't clear that any were deceased and we strive to protect the privacy of living persons.
If you'd like to send me a Personal Message (PM) with the names of those deceased I'm happy to edit your first post and reinstall them.
To send a PM click on the scroll icon before a members username on any of their posts (such as this one ;))
