I am interested in finding out more about the members of Cairo Gang. They were British intelligence offices sent to Ireland to infiltrate the IRA and kill or capture Michael Collins. Collins managed to get a photo of them in which they are all numbered and presumably named. On the 21st November 1920 they were all tracked down and killed. The day became known as Bloody Sunday.
I have seen the famous photo on the web and in books but have never seen a list of the names. I have family history reasons for wanting to know this. Interesting situation for me as my own family history is possibly partly Irish and I am married into an Irish family but I do have potentially have a connection with a member of the Cairo Gang. Any info gratefully accepted.
Many Thanks
Jenny

I see Jenny Elizabeth has long since stopped looking at Rootschat!
Anyway I have at last come across the names on that photo so I could help her
I have, in vain, tried to get at whether the photo is genuine or not. Can you imagine 10 spies saying, "lets get out class photo taken "
The whole episode of the shooting of the Cairo Gang is somewhat badly written up historically. Nobody appears to have made an objective study of which were British spies, and which were mistakes. Nobody has verified, as far as I know the men said to be in the photo with their actual photos.
It is rare to come across a descendant like the OP of this thread, and I really would like to contact her
