Hi Inchworm

123.12 COLVER Joseph

This is all that is listed for your Joseph, do you have any other details about him.  I also checked the musters and he isn't listed there either.

What time frame do you have for him?

Rather like a "List of Convicts without particulars"  :-\

It is listed as belonging to the data Base - List of Convicts with particulars 1788-1825 part 2
I went looking and could only find a title page at the beginning of part 1 - taken from Files held by the national library Canberra and Mitchell Library Sydney (film I would assume)
From the PRO London
Colonial Office NSW Entry Books of Correspondence No 1 CO207/1
Alphabetic Lists of Convicts with particulars 1788-1825

I wonder if ancestry only has the index and the reference 123.12 relates to a page number with more information? But I really have no idea. A query to the National Library or the Mitchell library may provide more information.

I looked in the NSW State records Index Colonial Secretary's papers but couldn't find him there??

Trish

Hello,
Many thanks to both of you for looking. What a shame that there wasn't any information. He could be one of two Joseph Colvers that I have for that time span. Both came from Earl Shilton, Leicestershire.

Hi,

A Joseph Colver came to Port Jackson (Sydney) on the ship Glatton in 1803.  He was tried in Leicester in 1801 and given a 7 year sentence.  Don't know why there is a 2 year gap between sentencing and actual transportation, maybe he was on a hulk on the Thames.

Unfortunately there is no age given on the entry on the index of convicts to Port Jackson CD by Lesley Uebel.  Maybe you would like to join the Rootsweb Convicts to Port Jackson list and Lesley may be able to help you with further information.  Sometimes when there is no further information or age given it means the convict died on the voyage.

Many thanks for your help. I will do as you suggest. What a pity that there were not any more details.

Inchworm

Hi Inchworm.

I -think- this would have to be Joseph the husband of Sally Clarke - the only Joseph I have who was both alive and of a suitable age to be transported.  Can't be certain though.  There were also a number of Colvers in Yorkshire at the time of course, though I don't have names.
