I am trying to find some information on Chinese laundries in Swansea during and after WW2 - I am trying to establish some family connections for an elderly relative and I am not having a great deal of luck so far. Names would be useful although whereabouts of the businesses would be better. Many thanks..

There was certainly one in Bryn Y Mor Road, near the hospital. My father used to have his collars done there for a number of years from 1951, but neither of us can remember the name of it.
???

Thanks for your response BevBee - I remember the one in Bryn-y-mor Road and I believe their name was Soo. Can you or your father remember when this one closed?? We were thinking that there was one in Oxford Street or Dillwyn Street and also in Francis Street (by Victoria Park) but we are still stuck on this query. I am sure that there must have been others as well but maybe not..hopefully some other members may recall some laundries :)

There was a Chinese laundry at the top part of High street,a few doors from the "Full Moon"pub,circa 1960.
The pub is still there but the laundry has long gone.
Sorry no idea what the laundry was called.

I remember going to the one on Bryn Y Mor Road in about 1968 with my dad, but I don't remember when it closed sorry.
You could try asking on this site;

Many thanks for that link, BevBee - I will check it out. Alan has also mentioned that there was one in the High Street - I do seem to recall one in Francis Street but maybe that was an ordinary laundry :)

There were Chinese laundries in Brynymor Rd, King Edwards Rd, Walters Road and the High street.
My father owned the laundry in Brynymor Rd.
