TRYING TO TRACE A DECEASED RELATIVE IN BRIDPORT. I ONLY KNOW THE ROAD WHERE THEY LIVED IN 1950'S
I THINK PROBABLY THE ONLY WAY TO TRACE THEM WOULD BE THROUGH REGISTER OF ELECTORS.
IS THE ONLY PLACE TO FIND THIS INFORMATION AT THE DORSET HISTORY CENTRE, DORCHESTER ? OR IS THERE ANOTHER SOURCE.
UNDERSTAND THERE IS A LONG WATING LIST FOR LOOK UPS & IT IS SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES FOR ME TO TRAVEL TO DORCHESTER. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
Thanks.

Are you trying to find the year of death ? Wouldn't the free BMD site have that ? The Ancestry co. site show phone numbers and addresses of people up to a certain year (can't remember which year this is, though). The Probate Office in London would have a list of Wills or Letters of Administration but I think there is one volume for each year, so it would mean working through all the possible years of death. Some villages/towns have thir own web page where you could post a query, and there is always the local newspaper .

THANK YOU ROSECOTT FOR YOUR REPLY.
I AM TRYING TO TRACE THESE RELATIVES, BUT THE PROBLEM IS I DO NOT KNOW THEIR NAMES OR THE SURNAME, ONLY THE HOUSES & ROAD WHERE THEY LIVED IN 1950;S.
I KNEW THEM AS AUNT & UNCLE. MY PARENTS (NOW DECEASED) USED TO TAKE US TO BRIDPORT FOR HOLIDAYS WHEN WE WERE QUITE YOUNG.
SEEMS INITIALLY THE ONLY WAY TO DISCOVER MORE IS TO VISIT & CHECK OUT THE ADDRESS AS I KNOW I CAN FIND IT,INVESTIGATE FROM THERE & THEIR NAME/S.
I WAS HOPING THERE IS A LOCAL STREET DIRECTORY OF BRIDPORT BUT THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE THE CASE.
Thanks
