Hi Julie,
1930 - She is living at 8 Athol St, Lilyfield, home duties with Walter Thomas HOLE, machinst.
1936 - living at 116 Allen St, Leichhardt, home duties with Walter Thomas HOLE, machinist.
All the best,
Gail

Hi Gail
Thanks so much for your quick response.
Can't be the Elsie I'm after though as looking at this she is obviously married and Hole is my Elsie's maiden name.
Cheers
Julie
PS Do you have access to Vic records at all?
-
Hi Julie,
I have a subscription to Ancestry which includes some Vic records - what did you want - I'll see if I can help?

Not necessarliy married to Walter could she be his sister or mother?
The Roll doesn't have marital status on it.
The roll definately says Elsie Elizabeth EVa Hole, as Crosswords has given you.
kind regards Jenn

Hi Gail and Jenn, thank you both for replying to my post so promptly.
My Elsie had no brother Walter. She was b1911 so I guess she could be Walter's Mum ??? I do know she was born in Bendigo, I also know the family lived in the Swan Hill area then Melbourne itself. They also lived for a time in Moulamein NSW.
She's proving very hard to trace as she was born to my g gmother and there is no father listed on her birth cert. My g gmother was Elizabeth Isobel Ethel Todd [nee Hole]. Elsie was adopted out so I guess her surname could be anything. I do know I'm grasping at straws here but anything's worth a try when you have nothing to work with.
Thanks again to both of you.
Cheers

Sorry just realised ther's no way my Elsie could be Walter's Mum as he would have had to have been a baby, so she is definately not mine.

Hi Julie
There is a Walter Hole, wife Annie having children in NSW 1888-1904, one of whom is a Walter T. I. - who may be this Walter. No sign of a marriage for him in NSW, however. Strange that the name is the same as your Elsie would not have been 21 in 1930, so in theory not on the roll. The Walter's mum wouldn't fit for a lass born 1911 - for the same reason. I was thinking Walter might be her Uncle, but I can't see a sister Elizabeth for the Walter I found & your Elsie would still only be 19 in 1930.
Trish
Edit: Sorry - while I was typing you posted re walter being a babe if he was the son

Hello there Elsie
by the indexs her name is listed as Elsie did her birth crtificate have her middle names on it?
Do you know if she married?
regards Jenn
-
Hi Jenn
Don't know about a middle name or if she married. Never even knew she existed until last year. Will contact the person who found her and find out what else was on the cert.
Cheers
Julie.

Hi
I'm wondering whether I could trouble either of you again for another Electoral roll look up please. I'm after a Jane Hole [nee Galbraith]. I know she lived in Deniliquin, Balranald and Moulamein. He husband Matthew died in Moulamein in 1906 so if you are able to check the rolls after that I would really appreciate it. I can't find her death anywhere so I'm hoping maybe the electoral rolls may shed some light as to where she went.
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers

Hi Nola
The online NSW electoral rolls are only for the years 1930 and 1936 - there are 323 Cambells with John as part of their name in 1930 - but only one John Donald - that I see :)
Campbell John Donald Henderson Street Inverell wool classer
The following have the same address
Campbell Aileen May Henderson Street Inverell typiste
Campbell Elizabeth Ainsworth Henderson Street home duties
may be a completely different family ???

The only Jane Hole I see in 1930 is Maria Jane Hole
New England Tingha
Hole Maria Jane Bundarra home duties
Hole William Richard Bundarra labourer
Qld has a Mary Jane Hole and Victoria a Myrtle Jane Hole.
Any sign of a remarriage for your Jane?
Trish

Hi Trish
Thanks so much for this but I don't think any of them are her. I haven't been able to find a re-marriage unfortunately [not to say there wasn't one].
Could I trouble you to maybe see if she's listed under her maiden name of Galbraith. I know I'm grasping at straws here but I've hit the proverbial brick wall with her.
Many thanks

Hi Sue
Sorry, my fault as I posted similar messages under different headings.

Hi Sue
thought I might have seen the name before - but I have senior moments with my memory!
Here is the Galbraith Julie - probably a good idea to stay with one thread - keeps all your info in one place
1930 Wentworth Bronte
Jane Galbraith 54 Read street Waverley home duties
No other Galbraiths on this roll
1936 same address, still alone

Hi Trish
Many thanks for this info.
Can you tell me please was there a census done in NSW around 1900-1910 or there abouts?
Cheers

No Australian census data post 1841 has survived Julie
Electoral rolls are available for every year - but not online. If you check on ancestry.com.au you can see what is online. Every adult from age 21 (now 18) was eligible to vote from 1901, but I believe it wasn't compulsory until some years later, so folks may not always be on the rolls. Despite compulsory voting, some folks never register so they don't vote.

Hi Trish
Thanks so much for this info, much appreciated. Darn shame about the census data. I was thinking that may be my last hope. Oh well, never mind. Just have to keep on hunting.
Thanks again.

Never was a truer word spoken - somewhat stronger sentiments have been known to be expressed
Your lady may have gone interstate - left the country - I just found one after a search started by other family members in the 1980s - so she might turn up - keep looking :)

Hi Trish,
You have found the right Campbell family, Eliza and her son and daughter, no father who is the John Donald I am looking for.
Thank you for you help,
Nola.

Sorry - I found no trace of Dad - there are just too many John MacDs to have any idea which may be him

Hi Trish
Believe me I did use much stronger sentiments when I read what you wrote about the census records - thought I better not put it on paper tho :)
Have checked Victoria where some of the family moved to but hadn't actually thought to look for her heading back overseas. Will give that a go. She has to be somehwhere...
Thanks again
Julie
