Title: William (Blake) Coote
Post by: gillianbuckley on Wednesday 21 May 08 17:45 BST (UK)
Hi,
I am now completely flumuxed over the birth of my grandfather, William Blake Coote.
His mother Eliza Mary Blake married William Coote in Chelsea in 1886.
He was born as William Blake between 1882/1885 before his parents were married, taking on the name Coote after his parents married.
I have asked the GRO to do a 3 year search (1882/85) but they only searched first 6 names of each year.
How can it be so difficult to find out when he was born & where, as we know the rest.
I have asked about this before but the 2 birth records I obtained were wrong & I thought the search would bring about a result. Can anyone help to add this piece in? Thanks, Gill

Hi Gillian

Is this one of the birth certs you have already looked at:

Births 3rd QRT 1885  - William Blake, Chelsea, Refs: 1a  315

The only other one I could see, allowing for a mis-transcript of surname:

Births 1st QRT 1886 - William Henry J Blatch, Chelsea, Refs: 1a 346

Monica  :)
