I have a 2nd cousin born 4th quarter 1908 in Gainsborough who now lives with her daughter in Littleover, Derby.
I was in touch with her last year when I wrote to let her know of my mum's death and she wrote back to me twice, the second time in July to send me a photograph of her grandfather (my g.g.grandfather's brother). At the time I hadn't realised quite how old she was.
I need to buy her birth certificate to find out her actual birthday, but I don't want to buy a card and send it to her daughter's address if the lady has died. Is there any way of finding out if someone has died between July 1907 and now, or indeed if she should die before her 100th birthday. I imagine if she gets to be 100, her birthday will be in the local paper.

Perth - As I mentioned the old lady is living with her married daughter and, I don't know her surname, so can't look her up in the 'phone directory.
Toni - Even if she was on the electoral roll that would only prove she was alive when the form was filled in.

you could try the Derby Evening Telegraph website, go to Classified adds, then Berevments, put name in search box they have anoncments going back about 5 years, so if her death was in the paper it will be there.

Thank you Alvaston Lad. I'll do that and check every couple of weeks or so just in case!.
Used to live in Derby myself in the 1970s but had forgotten what the evening paper was called. ???

Hi Lizzie
I thought I had read somewhere as to how to order more recent certificates but I can't find a link. As you know her address, can you find the local registry office & call them to check if you are allowed to check recent records?

Alvaston Lad
Do you have the website address for Derby Evening Telegraph? When I try to find it by googling, the sites that come up only seem to show the current newspaper. I've tried to find classified ads, but have failed.

Thank you Sue. I got as far as family announcements but couldn't see "bereavement".
Unfortunately, having found the bereavements, I find that my 2nd cousin died on 13 October 2007. I didn't know the lady at all, but my mum obviously did and used to write and telephone her regularly. I found her name and address in my mum's address book and wrote to let her know my mum had died. She wrote me a lovely letter back so I wrote again asking if she had any photos or information etc. She wrote back with a photograph of her grandfather, my g.g.grandfather's brother.
