Hi Easson
Thanks for your PMs and glad this has helped ;D Your reply (which I hope you don't mind my summarising here, as it may be helpful to anyone else who can help with details or who might be connected):
Thanks so much for the information. I knew of 1841, 1851 and 1861 census information for the William Easson family. But I could not locate James beyond his birth and marriage. The list of the children and 1861 census information for James is very, very helpful and exactly what I was looking for. ......
Thanks again for the information you sent me... I don't know where you got it ??
Do you have any further information about the marriage/census/deaths of the children of James Esson and Barbara Wallce? I was able to find info on Archibald (the eldest) but not much (other than census) on the other children.
James and Barbara & all children on 1871 - this is the last Census with the entire family all together (except Elizabeth the dau b abt 1860 - yet to discover what became of her after 1861)
1871: 1 Barnetts Close - St Nicholas Aberdeen

Dau: Janet I, 5, b St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire
Son: James 4, b St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire
Son: Alexander I , 3, b St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire
Some good sources are:
Scotland People - free to register. Free to Search, can purchase certificates, Parish record entries and Wills on line here at very good value for money. Also search, view and download/purchase Census - but one has to be careful of this as you can easily spend a lot trying unsuccesfully to locate someone ;D

FREECEN - Free Census records for UK - on going project not yet complete and concentrates on earlier Census.

Aberdeen is currently:
100% online for 1841
77.8% for 1851
Ancestry.co uk and Rootsweb are also very good sources (latter is free, and has been incorporated by the former. but former is a subscription site - though it does have some free bits, and special free offers from time-to-time). Access via Rootsweb:

1881 - 1901
Mary, the eldest daughter - as Mary ESSON, married a man named James MELVIN in 1879 St Nicholas, Aberdeen.
Free-Index Search of Scotlands People ( going by names of her children, guessed his first name was either George, Norman or James - and James it is. Though documentation would be needed to prove, am sure this is your Mary).
This is Mary in 1881, 1891, 1901....
1881: 8 Mealmarket St - St Nicholas Aberdeen
168/1, ED 39, HS 6
Head: Mary MELVIN 23, b St Nicholas Aberdeen
Son James MELVIN 11 mths, b Old Machar Aberdeen
Can't be 100 sure without seeing the original image on SP (to see if he is listed as married, and Mary too) but think James MELVIN was on the night-shift at work on 1881 Census night, and is listed here:
1881: Harron - Cruden, Aberdeenshire
185, ED 5, HS 101
Servant: James MELVIN 24, Baker, b St Nicholas Aberdeen
He is a Servant to James DANIEL, also a Baker.
James MELVIN died in 1885 - SP WIlls Index
James MELVIN, Baker, resident Mannofield, Aberdeen, died 21 Sep 1885 at Mannofield, He was Intestate.
Spouse of Mrs Mary ESSON or MELVIN.
Proved in Aberdeen Sheriff Court 12 Oct 1885.
Cannot see a death 1881-1891 in Aberdeen for James - but there is one to match, registered in Kincardine:
James MELVIN age 28, died 1885, Kincardine
(Note) Son Norman MELVIN's birth was registered 1885 in Kincardine, too)
His widow was in Kincardine in 1891:
1891: Banchory Devenick, Cults, Kincardineshire 251/3, ED 1, HS 34
Head: Mary MELVIN 33, Baker, b Aberdeen
Son: James MELVIN 10, Scholar, b Aberdeen
Dau: Barbara MELVIN 9, Scholar, b Aberdeen
Son: George MELVIN 6, Scholar, b Aberdeen
Son: Norman MELVIN 5, Scholar, b Aberdeen
Servant: Annie CLARK 31, General Domestic Servant, b Aberdeen
(son William age 8, is with Mary's parents in 1891)
Mary MELVIN remarried to James CUMMING, 1894 Old Machar, Aberdeen (SP Index)
1901:10 Duthie Terrace (Tay Park) - Aberdeen Mannsfield ,St Machar, Aberdeenshire
168/2, ED 59, HS 221

Hi
I'm also trying to trace a Helen EASSON, born about 1813 in Kinoul(?) or Kinord(?), whose father was Peter Easson, Vintner, and who married William SCOLLAY in 1833 in Perth, Scotland.
I can't find any record of her birth or death, only her appearing in Censuses 1851 and 1861, and Parish records of Banns & Marriages for William.
Any help appreciated...
Richard

JCee Thanks for the information. The William you speak of as the older brother of James, is also the older brother of Robert Easson. I am a decendant of Robert. His son, Robert, (b 1858) moved to Froickheim. And his son, Robert (b1880) emmigrated to Canada after WWI. By the way, your William had a son David Gordon Easson, who has decendants with whom I have had communications.

Hi Gordon,
A little to add to my post of 29 Jan. Ambly's post of 14 may 08 gives the family at home for the 1841 census.Mary was actually 18. Her dob was 6 May 1822. Probably the rounding down.Between Mary and Jean were Margaret 6 Dec 1823, Helen 1 Oct 1825, Wm 10 Jun 1827 and John 16 Sep 1829.The whole family were born in Fordoun. Wm died in Fordoun 11 Aug 1863 aged 80! Helen died in Auchinblae 31 Jan 1878 aged 77. Wm's service records are held at TNA under Kilmainham Hospital. You can find the ref (WO 119/54/189) on TNA the Catalogue. Wm's medals should also be on WO 100. I believe they are also on Ancestry and Find My Past. There is a page in the magazine Your Family Tree (History overseas) issue 105 dated Jul 2011 page 27. The page is part of an article on Military Records and Wm's medal clasps appear on it. I Googled 94th Regt of Foot and found that the Regt was disbanded on 24 Dec 1818. It could explain why William took his discharge. He was admitted to the Pension Roll on 31 Dec 1818. Hope this is of some help. I do have the DOB/Baptisms of all the family plus some of the marriages and deaths if you want them.
Jim.
