Hi sixtiestek - thank you for posting this information and welcome to RootsChat!

Since I originally made the post I have made the connection back to Allen Beckett of Lower Peover through the wills of Ralph Beckett (1762) and of Allen (1729) - I should have updated my original post to reflect this and will do so now.

I'm pretty sure the line is back through Allen's son John but can't yet find a baptism for him to be certain but the reference to nephew John Beckett of Sutton in Ralph's will is fairly conclusive.  I've estimated that John (senior) fits between Allen who was baptised 1680 at Astbury, and Ralph baptised 1684 at Astbury - if this is the case he should also be baptised at Astbury but I haven't found him there - or I have him in the wrong sequence of births.

I've done a bit of work in following the other lines down, but have much more work to do on this.

Are you connected to this family, if so we must be distantly related!

Hi Jean,
I'm descended from John's brother Thomas (christened 27 Dec 1685 at Astbury). His daughter Ellen married Joshua CRAGG at Rostherne 3 Feb 1729/30. They both died young and the Becketts rallied round to support their five orphans as various wills and the Lower Peover Town book testify. Their descendents have incorporated the forename Allen in each generation down to mine (my middle name). So, yes, it would appear we are cousins of some sort: Allen BECKET and Ellen SUTTON were my g(x7)grandparents.
Nice to catch up cousin!
Best wishes,
-Martin

Hi Martin,

Good to meet you.  I did start tracing the Cragg connection downwards but couldn't be sure of some of the marriages.  I have the following children of Joshua and Ellen:
Mary 1730 Over Peover
Richard 1732 Over Peover
Joshua 1733 Tabley
Thomas 1735 Tabley
John 1746 Tabley
First 2 children baptised at Lower Peover and the last 3 at Rostherne.  But there appears to be a large gap between Thomas and John so I may be missing something.

I haven't come across the Lower Peover town book so would be very interested to find out what is in it!

I'll send you a personal message to that we can continue off the thread.

Jean
