Title: NEWHAM - in Howden - 1760's
Post by: Jack2023a on Tuesday 06 May 08 12:27 BST (UK)
Looking for NEWHAM - in Howden, Yorkshire

Richard Newham (son of William & Mary (nee Ellsion?) Newham was born either 1758 or 1764

Nothing more is known about the Newham family.

However - Richard Newham married a Mary Simpson in the area - before he was convicted in 1803 - and sent to Australia.

It is uncertain when they married, and if there were any children.  Richard re-married in Australia in 1807.

Any help regarding this Newham family would be apprecaited.

You're welcome, Jack.  ;D

I think I've found a couple of likely children for Richard (again from the IGI) in Wressel (about 3 miles from Bubwith):

baptised 22 Nov 1789 Hannah d/o Richard Newham
baptised 18 Mar 1792 Mary d/o Richard Newham

There's also this marriage:

23 Apr 1751 William Newham & Mary Ellison in Hemingbrough, which is about 5 miles from Bubwith.

There seem to be quite a few Newhams in Hemingbrough - might be worth your while checking them out.

Just to let you know that there is NO Baptism's listed for Newham or off any other spelling of it for Howden and surrounding areas 1659-1703.
There is listed Simpson, Simson & Symson Baptism's - just ask if you would like them.

Having said that William and James Sister Mary Annetta Taylor/Fogg is my GG Grandmother on my Mothers mothers side. My Grandparents were actually 2nd. cousins. Apparently it was common in those days.  :-\ I do know the Newhams are all through the Cowra area. Would be good to touch base whenn you come up at Easter if possible. I work as a midwife at Gosford Hospital. :)  Oh, my name is Lynette Shaw. :)
