Hi
I understand many Derbyshire families migrated to North Wales around 1700, in order to work in the lead mines there. Carringtons, Hoosons, Nuttalls, Oldfields, Staleys were among them. Many came from Youlgreave, Winster and Bakewell areas. Is anyone else researching families who were part of the exodus? I would like to compare notes and share research.
Thanks
Heather

I am interested in a migration the other way round! My grandfathers grandmother came from the Evans family in Youlgreave, needless to say they were all employed as lead miners and it was said that they orginated from Wales, hence my grandfathers sandy hair. How true the welsh connection is who knows, but I would be interested to find out more.
People did move around to find work, and this is especially true in the mining communities, so migration either way is not surprising I guess, but I would love to find out more if anyone out there has more information on it.

Hi
My lead mining family are from Middleton by Wirksworth; I'm really intereste in this migration after reading a paper on the DNA patterns of the migration - you can find it on the DNA page of my website.

I haven't found any Brooks who migrated as yet though
