Hi kjf,
Although I am not searching your surnames, you are searching the same villages as me,
My grandfather Charles Edwards b 1892 Acton burnell
my g grandmother Ellen Edwards (nee Littlehales ) b 1832 Berrington
as far as I have got back, (approx 1790) it seems that we originated from the village of Cound next door.
I will happily have a look up on the parish records disc for an event for you if you want,
just give me a name to go on,
please be aware that the church in Acton burnell is R/c, and as such does not appear on my disc.
Best regards Pete,
ps which Donnington do you mean, there are two here.

Hi Pete
Thanks for your reply.
The furthest I have gone back is Richard Steadman & siblings, all baptised at Condover between 1786 & 1795 to John Steadman & Jane.
Richard was born 1788 and married Maria Wall at Acton Burnell, daughter of Thomas Wall & Mary Brasier, both stated as 'of Berrington' at their marriage at Acton Burnell in 1770.
I had no idea that Acton Burnell church was RC. I have the parish records for the church, plus Frodesley & also Condover so if I can help you, let me know.
Trevor family just states Donington on all census so I don't know which one it is.
Best wishes
Karen

I suggest you post the names you are researching (if you haven't done so already) in the Surname Interest Table (a wonderful idea produced by Berlin Bob). You can also search the SIT to see if any other Rootschat members are researching the same names as you.

Hi Pete
Wonder if you could look on your disc to see if you have anything on two sisters who are listed on the 1851 census in Liverpool as being born in Acton Burnell?
I have a Jane DERWENT b abt 1821 and her sister Phebe DERWENT b abt 1828
On the 1851 census they are listed as being U which I think is unmarried yet both have children. Jane's son Joseph b Birmingham 1848, daughter Phebe b Leamington 1846 and sister Phebe appears to have a son Henry b Liverpool 1850.
However by the 1861 census the two sisters are listed as being widows.
Joseph went on to marry one of my direct ancestors and the marriage certificate show Joseph's father as William DERWENT (deceased) occupation Joiner.
Many thanks

Hi Jean,
I entered the surname " DERWENT " with no luck, I tried " DARWENT " no lucK,
Then I tried wildcards no luck, so I tried the IGI, and found,
16/sept/1825, Phoebe Darwin, Acton Burnell, R.C. bap.
Father Gulielmi Darwin
Mother Annae
I then had a look for Jane Darwin, no luck, not even a Darwin hit, unfortunatly
I do not have the R.C records on my disc, which is a pain because I suspect my ggg grandad was baptised in this church one year later, were your ancestors R.C ? , Gulielmi , is a name I havent seen before, but you have to realise that R.C, records are all keept in Latin, and I havent a clue what this translates to English, perhaps some more experianced reader could tell you,
Hope this is of help to you, let us know if you have any luck Penetrating the R.C. armour,
Best Regards,
Pete.

Hi Pete
THanks for the info. Sure does look like it's the same Phebe. Oh and yes I do think there is the R.C. connection as when Joseph married my ancestor Kate McGurn they married in St Michaels Chapel Everton "according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Catholic Church"
Thought does occur may Jane and Phebe were sister in-laws and not just plain sister. Maybe Jane's husband was Phebe's brother. Have a feeling that Gulielmi is latin version of William.
Many thanks again.
