Title: Elizabeth GLASSCOCK bc 1795
Post by: Keeweegal on Wednesday 30 April 08 01:16 BST (UK)
Having lots of bother finding birth place of this ancestor Elizabeth Glasscock,  does this name feature of anyone elses family trees,   or does anybody know where the name originates from?   Elizabeth married Benjamin Farrow 1816 in Sudbury,  the only census I could find was 1841,  and this does not state the town where born,  only Suffolk.

Any ideas welcomed. ;D

I live in Suffolk and used to work with a Glasscock who was born in Lowestoft I believe. If you're interested I'll try and get in touch with him and see if he has a genealogist in the family who might know where they hail from. I'm of to S Wales early in the morning and he's ex-directory so it will be a couple of weeks minimum before I get back.

Thanks a million Pete,  any ideas for me to follow would be welcome.   I will be in Suffolk in October this year and was going to find someone with the same name,  but wasn't sure how I was going to approach them about this.

Cheers

K.........gal.

Hi Keeweegal,

I just had a quick look in my Suffolk Burials index CD, and there aren't all that many Glasscocks; most seem to be in Barton Mills, Stoke-by-Clare or Bures St Mary; there are a few odd ones scattered about elsewhere  :o :D
I can pm with names if it's of use,

Janet

That would be helpful,  only when you have time.   I should have made some inquiries when I was in Suffolk, a few months ago.   But....so much to know,  so little time.

cheers

Hi K...gal

Sorry at the delay getting back. I received this earlier today.

"Not really able to help you with this.  I only know that the 'Lowestoft'
Glasscocks moved from Bishop Stortford in Hertfordshire c1900 (William
Glasscock (b: 1880, d: 1913).  I am aware that there were historically
cetres of the original Glasscock family in south Suffolk, Essex and Herts
but know of no details!"

Sorry not to have been of more help

Pete

Hi there :D

Any information large or small is always a help,  you've just got to look for the clues....thanks for taking time to help....I won't be giving up anytime soon....I feel another trip to the UK coming up!!.....there goes the bank balance :'(

Cheers

Kimberly

P.S.   Have had another look at their marriage entry....it says Elizabeth Glassock of this parish (Sudbury),  but I cannot find any families from Sudbury.   I will look at Long Melford and close villages that would be registered in Sudbury.

I have a John Glasscock Marrying Elizabeth Robinson in Westminster in 1824.  Elizabeth's sister married into my line and lived in Enfield, north Middlesex which borders Herts.

Was Elizabeth Farrow an Innkeeper in 1841 at Newton?    If so, this census states that Elizabeth was not born in Suffolk.

Perhaps this is her:

Elizabeth Glasscock b.22/12/1791, bp.22/1/1792 Epping, Essex (bearing in mind ages were rounded down in 1841).

Hi Annette

Yes she was an innkeeper at the Saracens Head.   Will note the birthplace and do some digging.

Thank you for the info.

Have just found some notes that I had written some time ago where John Glasscock was her father and Mary Horsnail her mother,  John Glasscock from Walthamstow, Essex.    Will have to confirm this.

Yorkie:  could be the same John,  however,  no proof that Mary died before 1824,  so can't go further with that theory.

Cheers all  ;)
