Hi Andrea
I can only find one William Mead in Chesham on the 1841 of the right age to be Abel's father but he is living with a Lucy Mead, both aged 60, he is a carpenter though, the same as Abel.
HO 107/47/14 p4 Hundridge Hamlet of Chesham.
Strangely enough your Abel is living next door to my Grt Grt Grandparents in the 1851 in Waterside Chesham. ;D ;D
Looks as if there could be a good chance that his parents were William & Sarah Butt as, from the IGI, the first child Sarah was born 1804. I see they were all registered at "The Old Meeting House Baptist" in Chesham.
I'll have another look & see if I can find where Lucy might fit in.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi Andrea
I'm not doing very well here, they are a bit of a muddle aren't they. ;) I found who I think is Lucy on the 1851 (name spelt Meads), HO 107/1717/292 P3, lodging with an Ann King. Her age is given as 73 & born in Wycombe.
No wiser as to who she is though. :-\
Lucy & William are the eldest Mead's in Chesham on the 1841, the other family is a William born 1816 & wife Harriet with children. I wonder if he is the William born to William & Lucy. :-\ If you would like there details let me know.
There is also a Sarah Mead supposedly born 1823 but to be honest I'm not sure what her age is on the image. She is lodging with a Dell family.
I found a Lydia Mead buried Chesham St Marys 17th Feb 1814 aged 87, no sign of Benjamin, & a burial for Mary Mead Chesham St Marys 30th May 1817 aged 23. I wonder if she is the granddaughter of William Channer.
There are a few Mead's in Amersham & Chenies who could be related to yours. ???
I don't know if any of this is helping you but I'm trying. ;D

Hi Andrea
Only just spotted your post (I'm a new member).
I may be able to help a little. Here's what I have -
Abel Mead (1807-1876), was my great great grandfather. Born in Chesham, and married in 1827 to Eliza Atkins (1805-1868), also born in Chesham.
I have Abel listed as having a brother William (b1812), and a sister Sarah (b1804). Their parents are (I think), William Mead (b1780) and Sarah (b1780). Sarah's maiden name unknown.
Abel & Eliza had 8 children (all born in Chesham), Sarah (b1829) William (1831), Ann (1834), Edwin (1837), Thomas (1840), Eliza (1842), Abel (1846), and Stephen 1851).
Of course there could be other children, and some of these dates might not be 100%, but hopefully this may be of some help to you.
My main sources are Ancestry and historical family information.
kind regards
Rich

Last 3 are on the IGI, Extracted, and Elizabeth is on Familysearch Pilot also with the others.
Another Possible Marriage;

( Source IGI Extracted)
Welcome to Rootschat Brenda :)
So was Lucy Williams 2nd Wife?
You may like to check out FreeREG also as there are several Meads in Chesham and Bucks in general there.
Also a possible Marriage for Sarah Mead to John DELL 1824.

Hi again Andrea,
I have been looking at Trees for Abel and just wondered if you have his M/C for his 2nd Marriage to Mary DYER?
-
Hello Trish and Andrea, it's a long time since I was researching this Mead line, but yes I have Sarah married to John Dell, the Dell and Mead family are connected with my other ancestors the Faulkners.
Regarding William Mead the waters are rather muddied, there may have been 3 marriages, first to Sarah Rogers 1799, there was a daughter Elizabeth b/c 1801 in Chesham she married William Seymour 1830 in Chesham. William and Elizabeth Seymour were the witnesses at the marriage of William Mead to Lucy Holliman. A Sarah Mead was buried 6 April 1803 in Chesham.
William Mead married Sarah Butts/Bates Sept. 1803 Chesham, their children Sarah, Abel and William you are already aware of, I have no date of death for this Sarah, perhaps you would tell me if you have found this.

Hi anyone interested in the Mead family,
I am a decendent of Lucy Mead daughter of Abel Mead born about 1846 in Chesham. The same Abel Mead families that a few of your postings are about.
I do know that Lucy married Alfred Barnes and died in Great Hormead, Hertfordshire. I am having trouble finding Abel and Margaret Jane Mead in 1881, Lucy's parents. Does anyone have any ideas please?
