Title: William (Blake) Coote
Post by: gillianbuckley on Thursday 17 April 08 19:14 BST (UK)
 Hello,

I am trying to trace the birth records of my grandfather William (Blake) Coote .
He was born to Eliza Blake (born 1866). She went onto marry William Coote in Chelsea in Mar 1886.
I think he was born out of wedlock as William Blake about 1883/85, possibly in Chelsea or Kensington.
I have already seen " who donot seem to fit:
1 William Blake born in Chelsea in Sept 1885 as his parents were Henry & Rachel Blake.
2 William Blake born in Kensington in Sept 1884, although his mother is down as Mary Blake (servant).

I have since asked the GRO to do a3 year search 1883/85 for William Blake but I had a reply last night to say that there was only a check on first 6 entries of each year.
I am flumuxed as I gave the month of birth which was September but why can I not trace his birth.
Can anyone help, as I am still newish at this I have been trying> Thanks.

Looks like there is a lot of guessing and assuming here!! Might be right, but best to go one step at a time.

What evidence have you got that his mum was Eliza Blake?

Have you got the family on 1891 census?
I found the marriage in 1886, but have not found a William Coote with wife Eliza in 1891.

Who does young William give as a father's name when he marries?

sorry, lots of questions, I know.

Did young William ahve any siblings so we can find him on later censuses?

Do you have the 1886 marriage cert? If so, who were the witnesses, what jobs did everyone do and what address did they marry from?

The more info we have, the more chances we have of finding the right family  ;D

Regards

Carol

Thanks for the PM, Gill

For others trying to help in this one, the main points are:

1891 - RG12 60 74 38
William age 6 with parents William and Eliza

1901 - RG13 78 16 23
parents and siblings, William left home.

witnesses on marriage - Bertie W (appears to be brother, as is on 1901 census,)
and Eliza Mary (appears to be mother)

Father stated to be William Coote, painter, deceased.

Hi,
I have had to put out an updated post on William Blake Coote as I have had a 3 year search done that was between 1883/85 in London but only the first 6 entries were checked so I am getting back in touch with the GRO to get the search done.
In meantime I have had to reimput a post to see if anything comes from that on Beginners forum. It is worth a try & the 1891 Cencus & 1901 Cencus info is from his family> Thanks again, Gill
