Title: Passenger List Lookup Sydney 1900-1918
Post by: paulb1 on Tuesday 15 April 08 08:16 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm looking for a Joseph Batey who traveled to Sydney between 1900 and 1918 from England. Joseph was born 24 June 1860 in Easington Durham England. His occupation was a coal miner or cartman.

I wonder if anyone has access to the Passenger lists that may cover this period for a lookup. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul

There is a Joseph Batey on the Vic lists in 1901 (often immigrants to other states are on the Vic list) but the age is wrong - seems an unusual name so I thought I would mention it
BATEY JOSEPH 19 NOV 1901 OMRAH B 677 006

There is also a Joseph Batey who married in NSW 1908 - would this be your man - it may limit the search

Hi Paul

The image of the Passenger List for that voyage in 1901 confirms what Trish has already mentioned that Joseph Batey was only 19 years old when he emigrated and a cartman.  However his age is under the nationality column for Irish.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. Joseph went back to england, so didn't marry here. I don't think the Joseph on the Omrah is my man.

Anyway thanks.

Cheers,

paul.

Paul,
Does Joseph Batey or his family have any connection to Spennymoor, County Durham. Just a long shot but I have info on Batey family there.
