Hello,
Looking for information on 3x ggrandparents marriage listed as (FreeBMD):
September 1847
Sculcoates
John PERRY
Mary AINSWORTH
Parents names would help identify John PERRY, b. 1826c. in Stockport, Cheshire on the 1841 census ???
Mary AINSWORTH b. 1828c., Hull, is difficult to identify on the IGI at the moment.
John and Mary lived in Kingston- upon-Hull:
1851 census: Goddard Street, Sutton, St. Marks, Kingston-upon-Hull
1861 census: Cheapside, Sutton, Hodernefs, St. Marks, Hull
1871 census: back in Stockport
Children: Samuel James, Alice, John, Walter, Mary, Hannah Eliza, Emma, Sarah, Ann and Frank.
Any interested welcomed.
Regards, Lesley

Hi
This marriage is also on Yorkshire BMD and gives the location which will make it easier for lookup purposes

Hi Carole
Had a look at the 1841 census for Perry in Stockport and found a Perry family living in Hazel Grove, Stockport with a son John born 1828/29. Parents were Peter and Jane Perry.
On the 1851 census Peter and Jane only have their 3 youngest sons living with them and Peter states his age as 57 and birthplace as Norbury in Cheshire.

1847: Mary All Saints, Sculcoates, Hull, Yorkshire, HAS/6/266
John PERRY and Mary AINSWORTH 8)
Access to any parental information through this record would be very useful!
1841/1851 census: Peter and Jane in Hazel Grove are a possibility...do you have details of the census information for children's names?
None of John's children were called Peter or Jane...as John's children were: Samuel James, Alice, John, Walter, Mary, Hannah Eliza, Emma, Sarah, Ann and Frank...and many of these names were repeated later on...
John PERRY, b. 1826c. worked in the cotton mills as an Overlooker and his family were possibly Silk Weavers before that...John and Mary appear on later censuses and his age appears to be a little older than 1828/9, but it may be him.
Thanks for the replies and additional information.
Regards,
Lesley

Both Peter and Jane were silk weavers and sister Catherine. John was a worker in cotton mill.
Other siblings were Joseph, Samuel, Peter and it looks like Debra who was a cotton reeler.
Found the death of Peter 1st quarter 1862 and Jane 1st quarter 1877 both in Stockport.
Found the births and christening for all the children in Stockport. Then looked for Peter's birth and found it in 1794 his parents were John and Sarah Perry. If you want all the details I can give them to you.
Still looking for Mary on the 1841 but can't seem to find her anywhere.

Hi Margaret,
Thank you for the Peter and Jane reply. Will look at this 8)
I'd be interested in all the details, however, as it might help confirm Peter and Jane as parents for:
John PERRY, b. 1826c. Stockport, Cheshire.
(I only have access to the 1881 census at the moment).
John came back to Stockport in 1863c. (based on birth of his children) and was at:
1871: 8, Stringer Street, Stockport, and then in
1881: 58, Union Street, Stockport,
1891: 38, Nelson Street, Stockport, (Mary and three of the children)
1901: Grimshaw Street, Stockport, (Mary and three of the children)
Maybe Peter, Jane, Joseph, Samuel, Peter or Debra lived close by...
When I had access to ancestry, there were three or so other John PERRY b. 1826/7 listings in Handforth Cum Bosden...so trying to determine which listing is John's...
On the 1841 there is this family:
Joseph PERRY, 55, Silk Weaver
Mary, 55
Ann, 35
William, 20
John, age 15
Hannah
Possibly this family was in Bredbury in 1851, which is closer to Stockport (I think), and "distant relations"... "a Mr. and Mrs. LOWE, b. 1890c., with a daughter Marjorie" used to visit from there...also trying to identify this family eventually...
Mary, b. 1828c. Hull...looking to identify on the 1841 census, aged around 12, married in Sculcoates, Mary All Saints in 1847...so most likely would have lived close by...but it is tricky to determine who she is...
Thank you once again for the information.

I checked out the marriage at the local Record Office this morning.
Sculcoates All Saints Sep 20 1847
John Perry - full age - bachelor - weaver - residence Wincolmlee - father: John Perry, draper
& Mary Ainsworth - full age - spinster - resdience New George Street - father: Stan (?) Ainsworth, labourer.
Both made their marks.
Witnesses: William Hall (?), Alice Ainsworth (made her mark).
I'm not sure about Stan - difficult to read but I couldn't see anything else other than Stan! Not too sure of the first witness's surname either.
Wincolmlee is an area of Hull.
Hope that helps.

This is wonderful :)
Thank you very much for checking the local record office for the
September 20th 1847 marriage, Sculcoates all Saints:
John PERRY
Mary, nee AINSWORTH
I will take a look at this information but hopefully there will be a 1841 census listing for:
John PERRY, age 16c. (b. 1826c. Stockport, Cheshire) with father John PERRY, b. 1800c.
possibly in Wincolmlee, Hull or Stockport, Cheshire.
John PERRY (born b. 1826, Stockport) returned to Stockport in 1862c.
And:
Mary PERRY nee AINSWORTH in Hull on the 1841 with father Stan AINSWORTH (or possibly Samuel, as John and Mary's first child was Samuel James) and a mother/sister Alice AINSWORTH possibly.
John and Mary's children's names were: Samuel James, Alice, John, Walter, Mary, Hannah Eliza, Emma, Sarah, Ann and Frank.
This is definitely a step forward and I very much appreciate your help.
Regards,
Lesley

Thank you :)
For:
John, 45, Joseph, Martha, and John, 14, in Hazel Grove, Stockport...1841
John, 14, went to Hull in the 1840s, married there in 1847 and returned in 1862c.
John dad, 45, Joseph and Martha may have stayed in Stockport, Cheshire.
What would have prompted the move to Hull, did John just pack up and take a train over there? Or did the whole family go together? Either way, its amazing John moved back and forth in those times.
Thanks once again for the 1841 census information on John PERRY.
Regards Lesley.

Lesley just found Mary and family and added her to John's reply earlier.

...thanks for adding Mary's (likely) family to the earlier entry
(for John PERRY...b. 1826c. Stockport, Cheshire, living in Hull from around 1845c.)
...will be looking at the information...great to know more about John and Mary, nee AINSWORTH's families...
Regards,
Lesley COMPLETED
