The same location has the extracted record of the marriage of Hugh Christie and Mary Cowan in Ayr on 12th October 1860.

If you go to Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ a pay site you should be able to download and view the actual certificates. if this is the correct Hugh the marriage certificate should also provide details of his and his brides parents.

Hello Ferris

What you need to do, is as Falkyrn suggested - get a copy of the marriage extract for Hugh Christie and Mary Cowan from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - costs £1.20 - although minimum spend is £6.

On it you'll  find their parents names, fathers occupations and mothers maiden surnames - will also tell if they were alive at the time of marriage.  Feel free to post these and I'm sure people will pitch in to help.

Regards,  Steve   :O)

DO NOT send off for certs - they give no more info than the downloaded extracts.....

Amendment;  Please note that a copy of the census record can be found on Scotlands People - also copies of all children on that census birth extracts

Hello Ferris,

Hugh Christie's, parents were Daniel Christie, and Helen Hunter, they were married 29/June/1838. St. Quivox, and Newton, Ayr.

Hugh Hunter Christie, was born 24/Sep/1838, and Christened 30/Nov/1838. Newton on Ayr, Ayr.

his brothers and sisters were Agnes Christie, 07/Sep/1843, St Quivox, and Newton, Ayr.
Jane Christie, 08/July/1850. St. Quivox, and Newton, Ayr,
Sarah Christie, 08/Jan/1841, Newton on Ayr,
Robert Mitchell Christie, 08/Oct/1846. Newton on Ayr,
Daniel Christie, 29/Nov/1852, Newton on Ayr,
James Christie, 06/Sep/1855, Ayr, Ayr,
John Christie, 08/Jan/1856, Ayr, Ayr, this birth is down as Christy.

The 1855. birth of James Christie, would be a good certificate to purchase of Scotlandspeople, as this was the first year of Official Registration, in Scotland, that year they supplied lots more information than any other years.

Daniel Christie, the father was born in Co. Down, Ireland, he is still alive in 1861.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hello Ferris,

By 1881. Daniel Christie, has died, there is a death 1873, Ayr, Ayr, for a Daniel Christie, age 66 years, think this is him, you can get this on Scotlandspeople, should give his parents names, provided the person who registered the death new his parents names.

Helen Christie, his wife is on the 1881 census living at,
16 Halls Vennal, Newton on Ayr, Ayr.

Christie Helen, Head, Needle Woman, Widow, age 65 years, born Newton, Ayr,
Hunter Thomas, Boarder, Labourer, Widower, age 63 years, Born Newton, Ayr,
McQueen Thomas, Grand Son, Scholar, age 10 Years, born Newton, Ayr.

This Grandson Thomas McQueen, aged 10 years, is i think the son of Daniel, and Helen's, daughter Jane Christie, and i think this is his birth,
Thomas Christy, born 29/June/1871, Ayr, Ayr, to mother Jean Christy, no father.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi
I have my great-great grandmother as Agnes Christie (parents are Daniel Christie and Helen Hunter)
I think she married Archibald MacDonald, from Dalmellington.
anyone have and information on any of these 2 names?

thank you

Hello it looks like Archibald McDonald, married Agnes Christie, 31/Dec/1869. Ayr, Ayr.

It also seems to me that this was Archibald's, second marriage first marriage to Isabella Mitchell, 19/Sep/1862. Dalmellington, Ayr, one child to this marriage James McDonald, born 1862. Dalmelington, Ayr.

Isabella Mitchell, Archibalds, first wife died 1863, aged 24 years, Dalmellington, Ayr.

Looks Like Archibald McDonald's, parents were James McDonald, and Janet Wason.

You should be able to confirm most of this information by purchasing the marriage certificate 1869, between Archibald, and Agnes, on Scotlandspeople, for a small fee.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hey, appreciate this is an old thread but Daniel Christie and Helen 4th great grandparents and their daughter Agnes Christie and her husband Archibald McDonald are my 3rd great grandparents.  I am actively researching my mothers descendants through her mothers side.

Archibald and Agnes had a daughter Helen, born 16/1/1872 in Dalmellington, Ayrshire - she was my Great great grandmother.  She had a half brother, James born 4th November 1862 in Dalmellington, Ayrshire - his mother Isabella died when he was 1 year old. Infuriatingly I can trace him to Dalmellington living with his parents in 1901 but the trail has gone cold for me.  As I appear to have some fam on here - do any of you know what happened to him?
