Jem Mace, champion pugilist of the world.
Most famous of the gypsy fighters perhaps.
s/o William Mace and Ann Rudd, he was born cir 1831 in Beeston, Nfk.
He had many Liasons, some of whom were legitimate wives, and some bigamous!

Alice caroline stokes (no dates)
Mary Ann Barton (1851-div 1863)

Their children included:

Their known children were: Agnes Madona b.cor 1875 Norwich, Herbert b.cir 1876 Dundee Sct, Thomas Augustus b.cir 1880 Denny. Stirling, Sct, and Melbourne, b.cir 1882 Sct.

There was a boxer - not sure if he was Romany or not - called Alex Reed, nicknamed the 'Chelsea Snob'. I have travellers (pretty sure they were Romany but could have had Irish travellers blood) from Chelsea and Fulham and wondered if anyone knew anything about him to see if he was a relative as I only know of 1 person in the whole of my Reed family and that is my ggg grandmother Amelia Georgina/Georgiana Reed.
I also have a photo of men boxing but I can't scan it at the moment but I will post it as soon as I can in case someone recognises anyone. I have no clue who they were, they could be relatives but I'm not sure who.
