Hi Everyone,

This is a old picture taken from a Newspaper, the photograph is of a relative of my husbands who died in the war.  Its very small and hard to read, can anyone make it a bit larger and clearer please.

Betty

Do you have the original newspaper cutting or is this a photocopy/emailed copy?

Hi Sorry,

No I don't sorry!! someone sent me the image in an e-mail a while back.  I have relatives who are also related to the James Erly and wanted to send them a picture but its not very clear is it.

 :-\

any photo or picture that is this small just doesn't enlarge - the dots just become bigger dots and nothing makes it clearer other than a fresh scan done at 300-600dpi then we can enlarge and try to make it clearer.

Hi jc26red,

I thought that may be the problem.  I tried to enlarge it but as you say the dots just get bigger too.

Appreciate you help though!!

well you have done prety well there kelona & to be honest you are not going to get far with this particular photo, if i were you i would try something else, copies of newspaper photographs are very difficult to do anything with, hope you keep trying it is a facinating hobby.

I'm not sure if this is better or worse but I'll post it anyway. I had to do them seperately becuase they needed different things done to enhance them.
I assume you can read it but if you can't I just quickly transcribe it:
Private James Erly of the Northumberland Fusilier: a South Ossett soldier, who was reported wounded and missing on May 24th and was recently reported killed on that date. He was 34 years of age and unmarried.

What a shame. :(

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for trying with the picture, I know it is a very bad copy from a Newspaper but its better than nothing. I thought it was very bad and would be difficult with all the dots on the scanned picture to correct it but I am glad you all had a go anyway.
And for those who are just learning hope you get better pictures to try on, this one wasn't the best but you all did a very good job.
