				Hello Ian,

Sure hope you are still around ... I noticed within your list of surnames you have some of mine, most especially REIDFORD.  I descend from an all male line from 1600s until 1926 when my Mum was born (nee REIDFORD) in Glasgow.

How does REIDFORD figure in your ancestry?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

				Hi Toni

Sorry haven't been on this site for a bit.  Yes I have lots of Reidfords in my line, my great great Aunt Jessie Agnes McIntosh's mother was Agnes Ann Reidford (b 7/12/1868 - Aberchirder, Banff) Her parents were Alexander Reidsford (B - 4/2/1832 - Marnoch, Banff) and Ann Morrison (B 1842)

 Kind regards

				Dear Ian

Thanks for bringing George to life in the family tree.  Did they remain living in Scotland?  Are you able to tell me details of their offspring and birth and death dates and if there are any of George and Mary (McIntosh)Dyker's descendants still living and if so where.

 Do you have any photos?

Lastly, any chance you have evidence of George's brothers Alexander and William ever marrying?

 Kind regards
 AGMacD

				Dear AGMacD

Don't have much more I'm afraid.

George and Margaret had a daugther Agnes Annabella Dyker born - 04/08/1906 in Enzie, Banff.  She died in Inverurie in 1997.

They also had a son, I think, George Alexander born in 1908, died in 1974.

Willaim Dyker married Elizabeth McKay  on 21/11/1908 in Huntly.  No other info.

No information on Alexander.  I think he died in 1926 but cannot find out any details of this or a marriage.

 Kind regards

 Ian

				Dear AGMacD

I've come across this George Dyker and I am sure it is the wrong one.  Our George was born in 1886.  I have a copy of his birth certificate.  Parents Charles Dyker and Isabella McClaren.

 Kind regards

 Ian
-
Well my records indicate that it is correct that Charles and Isabella had George born 30 April 1886 in Glass.  So therefore George born in 1878 must belong somewhere else.

This is becoming an obsession. I will have to take time to work through it all.
 Regards
 AGMacD

Ian, George's sister Elsie Bryndon Dyker (my grandmother) b 22 March 1882 penned a poem "To a New Baby" the last lines in the poem:

 Little squirming cuddling thing
Ere you shed each angel wing
Did they tell you you were sent
 With a cargo of content
to a home down here below
Where they hungered for you so
Do you know you flawless pearl
How we love our baby girl

Poem was dated April 22 1906

				Hi Anita

That is really nice, to have something from your family, from over a 100 years ago.  Makes it all a bit more real.

 Kind regards

				Hi Anita

Yes, it does become quite addictive and an obsession.  I have quite a few Dyker birth, death & marriage certificates I could e-mail you if you'd like.

 Kind regards

 Ian
-
				Thanks Ian
Yes I would appreciate the certificates emailed or faxed if that's easier.  I have Elizabeth and Elsie's certificates as I had to initially prove UK grandparent status to work in the UK in the 80's. If you don't have those two I will email to you.

Also I think that the poem may have been for the birth of Agnes - was she born April or August.
 Anita.

				AGMacD,

I read with great interest, the reference to William George Wyborn who married Margaret Dyker in Vancouver in 1926. William George Wyborn was my 4th cousin 3 times removed. He was born in Moat Sole, Sandwich, Kent on 24/6/1885 and died in Vancouver, British Columbia on 8/4/1950 but, until I found your posting here, I didn't know whether he had married or not.

I am in contact with another Wyborn cousin in Vancouver and will see if he can trace the marriage certificate to see if William George's father was one William Wyborn of Northbourne, Kent (1851-1927).

 Bye for now.

Well that's very interesting.  I have British Columbia Online births deaths and marriages documentation (I don't remember where from)

I have a lovely clear photo of Margaret but don't think I have any of George.

				Anita,

Many thanks for replying to my message. I've had a reply from my contact in Vancouver and he found that William George Wyborn was married twice. The first marriage was to one Annie Kidd (1883, Glasgow) on 19/11/1914 at the First Presbyterian Church, Vancouver.

Annie dies on 25/2/1925 and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver. As we already know, William then marries Margaret Dyker on 24/6/1926 at St. Margarets, Vancouver. William dies in 1950 and Margaret in 1974. I don't know where William George is buried but I am guessing that, as Margaret is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, he will be as well.

The informant at Margarets death is a son-in-law so William and Margaret may have had a daughter. Unfortunately, I don't have the son-in-laws name to hand at the moment but I will ask my contact if he can find any Wyborn births in Vancouver c1926-1930 that can be attributed to William and Margaret?

Will be in touch again soon.

				Hello Blue_Ian and AGMcD,

I came across your information concerning the Dyker family one night.

Just to let you know that William, who married Elizabeth McKay, died in Cobham, Surrey. They were my great grandparents.

Charles and Isabella (nee Mclaren) are buried in a small churchyard in Glass called Walla Kirk (St Walloch's Church). There are other Dykers there too.

I haven't done much research for a while, but I will see if I can dig out what I have.

While I remember, my father has always said that a George Dyker was a maker of fiddles. I'm not sure if this is William's brother or not, but apparently there are Dyker fiddles out there somewhere.

I hope this post works as it is my first attempt.  :)

				Hi RD,

Yes there was a George Dyker that was a fiddle maker. He was born 1878 in Glass, Aberdeenshire. His parents were Alexander Dyker(brother of Charles mentioned in earlier posts) and Elspet Bremner. George married Jane Robertson and had three children, Alexander, Annie, and Susan.

An auction website states this about George Dyker.
Hope it's of interest to you.

'Born in Aberdeenshire, 1878. Resident in Drumduan Forres (Morayshire), 1924. Produced first instrument in 1901. Built about 40 violins and several ’cellos. Heart and soul in complete sympathy with the charm of the Stradivarian model, absolutely no exaggeration in his delineation of the outline and graduations. Workmanship perfect down to the minutest detail, positively a delight to see. Scroll and sound-holes supremely conceived. Purfling faultless. Inside details beautifully finished. Peculiar properties of various woods, even to the sound-post, carefully ascertained. Orange brown shade of oil varnish applied as only as artistic mind can foresee. Occasionally tried a reddish shade. Instruments that must surely have a high and permanent place in the future. Dyker, in travelling the road of scientific exactitude, also kept in view that elusive thing known as tonal quality, which is as resonant and clear as anything heard, and is already of that peculiar quality which rapidly develops under the stimulus of the bow.'
-
				Hello Robert,

My dad will be chuffed to read this. We had no idea that he made cellos as well. They must be beautiful instruments by the way they are described.
Sounds like he was a perfectionist - something that seems to run in the family.

Thanks for this info. Very, very interesting.

 :)

				Hi RD,

No problem, glad it was of interest to you.

Hi all those interested in Mr William George Wyborn, Vancouver.

Trawling through my mother's letters and postcards and found another reference to her Uncle.

As we know my maternal great aunt, Margaret Dyker, married Mr William George Wyborn.  What I have found it a newspaper clipping entitled: "Rites Set for City 'Skipper'"

I would be happy to fax it from Australia to Wyborn relatives.  Just need yr fax.

Briefly, the article relates to an obituary placed in the newspaper around 8 April 1950.

"... A veteran skipper of Vancouver's waterfront, William George Wyborn, 64, will be buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Wednesday, after 1pm services in Mount Pleasant Funeral Chapel. He died Saturday aboard on e of his much-loved boates, the Norsal, anchored at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.

The article briefly highlights his life skippering boats out of Vancouver. Born in Sandwick Kent in 1885 came to Vancouver in 1908 and joined Union Steamships until 1910 when he became caretaker of Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. He was in the RCAF stationed at Toronto in WW1.

At his death he was taking care of the Norsal for the Dewees' estate. Surviving are his wife at home, 356 East Twenty-fourth, a daughter, Mrs Herbert Bow and one granddaughter.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi not sure if you have worked out the family tree yet.

I have just logged back in to see if any updates.  I am confused by the newspaper article that has his William George Wyburn survived (at the time 1950) a wife, a daughter Mrs Herbert Bow and a grandaughter.

I was unaware that my great Aunt Margaret Wyborn (nee Dyker) may have divorced - as she died in 1974.

If you are still tracing this can you let me know what you have discovered.

I am in Vancouver in August and while there plan to visit the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and also the Mountain View Cemetery to see if there are more clues.

Also heading for Huntly in Aberdeenshire to visit the graves of my maternal great grandparents Isabella McLaren and Charles Dyker.

 Regards
 Anita.

Just thought you might be interested to know, I am a Scottish Fiddler, from Aberdeenshire, now living in Texas USA. I have played a Dyker fiddle for about 27 years now. It belonged to my great uncle who lived in Forres, Morayshire. He bought it around 1945. I have just had it restored and am very pleased with the result. I hope to be playing it for another 27 years at least!

Thanks for the information.  A Dyker will definitely stand by you!

To Blue_Ian ~  My turn to say sorry.  Surfing REIDFORD tonight I came across this thread & realised I'd not come back to check.  Your Agnes Ann REIDFORD born 1868 is my 4C3R.  My Mum's ms is REIDFORD.

Thank you for posting information about the Dyker line. I believe these are my direct ancestors as my great grandmother was Ann Grace Dyker from Glass, Scotland. She married Alexander Leipper who owned a farm outside Glass called Cairnmore.

You have helped me fill in some holes and expand my family tree!
