Title: Baxter/McMinn families
Post by: scottish lassy on Thursday 03 April 08 22:48 BST (UK)
I have just (tonight) discovered this Irish connection!
In the 1881 census William Baxter aged 33 (b 1848) living in Airdrie born in Antrim
wife Margaret McMinn aged 28 (b1853) also born in Antrim.
Their 2 eldest daughters Emma b 1872 and Margaret b 1874 were born in Antrim and then they must have moved to Scotland in the next 2 years.

I would love to find out more about these 2 families as the Irish connection was only a family rumour up until now!

As you need more than a county to find information in Ireland you should start looking for details of the family in Scotland's People to see if you can get a more exact place in Ireland than 'Antrim' (parish if not actual townland).
If any children were born in Scotland their birth certificate should list date and place of parent' marriage.
According to IGI Emma and Margaret Jane were born in Belfast (dates are given) so you could gets their birth certificates if above idea isn't possible (but Irish certificates do not give much information).
There is also a submitted entry for Margaret Jane's birth which has a different date and gives birthplace as Airdrie.

See OTTO has quickly found the marriage. Certificate should list fathers' names and occupations, names of witnesses and residence of bride and groom at time of marriage.

Record Type   Civil Birth
Emma Baxter Date of Birth 12 Sep 1872
Fathers Name   William Baxter
Mothers Maiden Name Margaret McMinn
Civil District    Belfast
Sub District   Belfast No 9
County   Antrim

I think Belfast No 9 was Limestone Road area, but birth cert from GRONI would confirm details.

I now know that William Baxter's parents were John Baxter and Sarah Green.
Margaret McMinn's parents were Robert McMinn and Janet Clark.

If anyone has any information which could help me further my search or even know which records to request from the official offices, I'd be very grateful

I had actually come across this family and thought it was them - except for Mother in Laws name being Connor rather than Green.  Although, I suppose she could have re-married.  Other than that, the detail would all match.

Hi I have been researching this family for a friend who is a descendant of Benjamin Baxter, son of John Baxter and Sarah Green. John and Sarah are his 4xgreat grandparents.

If you want to get in touch feel free to send me a private message.
