Hi Penninah
Tricky one as there are several parishes in Chichester. If no-one else can look before, I will attempt to find her for you in mid May when I have a week off.
If you have any other info - eg did she marry in Chi? What parish? That might help locate her.
Cheers
Jan ;)

Hi there
She had a sister Sarah who is visiting in one of the census. I have found a susannah and a sarah of the right ages on the 1841 with Joseph Collick and family in St Pancras Sussex if that helps.
Thanks
Penninah ;D

Hi
Will see what I can find.
Meanwhile came across these Sussex Burials which might be connected
SUSANNA COLLICK buried in Madehurst, St Mary Magdelen 15 Sep 1826 age 42 'of Chichester'
Joseph COLLICK buried 31 May 1854 in Chichester St Paul age 50 'from The Infirmary'
Joseph COLLICK buried 23 Apr 1816 in Madehurst St Mary Magdelen age 61 'of Chichester'
Joseph COLLICK buried 23 Mar 1843 in Madehurst St Mary Magdelen Age 65 'of Chichester'

Oooh thanks for that, Collick doesn't seem a common name so they must be connected!

Oh and looking at the 41 again the youngest is Mary who is only one so the mother must have died c1840.
Could this family have been Jewish?

Hi Penninah
As I don't have access to the 41 at present could you post the full 1841 details please? May help track them down.
Will see what I can do next month
Cheers
Jan ;)
What makes you think they may be Jewish?
-
1841-
Borough of Chichester, St Pancras-
Joseph Collick 60 - Publican born county
" " 30 - Tailor not born county
Susan " 20 - born county
Sarah " 15 - "
John " 14 - "
Mary " 1 - "
The reason i think they may be Jewish is that Susannah's daughter Kate Venetia Allerton married into a Cowell family who are most definatly Jewish.
-
Hi
Looking at that big age gap between John and Mary it is possible that she is daughter of Susan or Sarah rather than Joseph senior's wife. Or maybe he married again or perhaps she belongs to Joseph junior? Have you located her in 1851?
Jan ;)
Is St Pancras the parish or street name? Just wondering what pub they might have been at.
-
Hi again...
No i haven't got that far yet!! lol i hadn't thought much on Mary to be honest... i did think the age gap was odd. On the 41 all that it says in the address bit is Chichester, St Pancras.

Not very helpful then as there is a parish and street of the same name :( ;D
Just found this burial
Mary Ann COLLICK 13 Mar 1840 Age 31y 'from North Street' buried Chichester St.Peter the Less
Possibly Mary's mum?? Worth holding on file - as you say not a very common name.
Also here are only Collick refs from 'Chichester: A Documentary History'
Needlemakers
1687/98 Abraham Collicke St Pancras
1727 Abraham Collicke St Pancras
Getting quite excited about this family (my own have ground to a halt in all directions at the moment :D)

Lol, I am grateful for your help and enthusiasm! i have so many brick walls i've lost count!!!
Mary Ann sounds like a possibility, she may have been Joseph jr's wife or a second wife to Joseph snr as you said!

Hopefully something will be revealed in the middle of May ;D

Wow that is great, you have been busy!
That looks like the generation further back... could be if the 1781 the close to Joseph and Jane (which i have found also) is the right one then the father Joseph could be the one born to Thomas and Susan in 1755.
Still need a marriage for my Joseph c1781.... hmmm...
Good stuff Jan!
Thank you

Hi
In case the Thomas buried in Chichester 1760 is husband of Susan there is this administration
Calendar of Administrations in the Consistory court of the Bishop of Chichester 1555-1800
Collick, Thomas, yeoman Vol7, p206 1760
And this will could be relevant too
Calendar of Wills in the Consistory Court of the Bishop of Chichester, 1482-1800
Collick, John, The Close of Cath. C., Chichester Vol40 p18 1757
The St Pancras transcripts go up to 1812 - all the Collicks there were 1600's and early 1700's. Happy to pick those up as well when I go back (hopefully next Tues). Also noticed a baptism on Pallots Baptism Index for Rd Collick parents Jos and Jane at Chichester Subdeanery in 1785 - so will dig in those transcripts too.
Re the marriages if you post for a Sussex Marriage index look-up I'm sure someone will do that for you.
Regards
Jan ;)

this is just fantastic, there she is!!
You are a star! Thank you ever so much, i'd still be at a brick wall if it wasn't for all your help.
I shall take a proper look and start getting it all into order later when the girls are in bed!
Thanks again Jan

Hello
I know I am very late to the table.
I think I am researching the same line in Slindon and had hit a brickwall with COLLICK. However, I have found Susan CHOLICK bap 23 Feb 1743 at Walberton, Sussex, to John and Susan. Walberton is just 2.5 miles from Slindon and 4 miles from Madehurst.
I am quite convinced by this baptism, as Susannah APPS burial record Slindon in 1813 says she is aged 70 making her birth 1743.
The next brick wall for me is now who is John COLLICK CHOLICK and his wife Susan.
Best wishes
