Hi, I Have found this birthplace on census for one of my ancestors. Please forgive me for I have not got a clue where it is? possibly a mis spelling? st andagsan?

If this name came from a census then I guess it is a
parish or town name. It could be Llandegfan
which is a parish near Menai Bridge.
A curly Ll could look like St, and f written with a
long stroke could look like s.

I still haven't found out for sure. But I only have the married name not the maiden name so many possibilities.

Sounds like Llandegfan, as if some wrote it, just by hearing it, and did not understand where or what it was.......some of the entries by many of the census 'enumerators' are astonishingly poorly recorded. It was all about the number. no one could have imagined we would be looking into these things many years later I suppose.
