Title: Help with WW1 medal card
Post by: Hoppie on Monday 31 March 08 22:26 BST (UK)
I have been searching the national archive and ancestry.co.uk for a medal card for my great grandfather but there doesn't seem to be one.  He was a regular soldier from 1900 and then served in France in WW1.  He won a DCM as a soldier then an MC and DSO with clasp as an officer before being injured in October 1918.  I really want to see the medal card but must be very thick not to be able to find it.  Can anyone please help?  He was James Kennedy, dob 26.12.1881, serving with the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), then attached 13th Welsh Regiment from July 1916. Most grateful for any help.

There are a few J.Kennedy's that could be him but this one looks most likely.

Neil that is great. I have downloaded it already.  How on earth I couldn't find it I don't know - even when I put in his regimental number it didn't bring him up. Thank you again.

Hello Hoppie,

If you have access to Ancestry, it is also on there and there is more information on the back of the card.

Just put Kennedy and his service number into the search and you should get it.

Hello Hoppie,

I've found that the less information you enter, the better. Christian names/initials are notorious, as you have probably found out.
