Could any kind person let me know if it is worth going to Bowness on Solway to look for grave stones? I am particularly interested in the Bewley and Pingney families (mainly 18th and 19th century).
-
You might be lucky :)

Thank you! I think it's worth a visit.

Are you interested in Pingney Bewley born 1833 Holme Cultram?
Best wishes,
Jackie
-
Yes, he's one of them! Do you hace connections with him?
The problem is there was a lot of intermarrying between the Pingneys and the Bewleys - takes a lot of unravelling!

Mary
Well, yes and no... Pingney Bewley married a Kirkbride and that is my main line in Whitehaven. Although Pingney is not in my line, I did follow his family quite closely to see if there was a connection. You know that he lived in Whitehaven? He was in business at 9 Tangier Street.
I also have this which might be of interest to you:-
Preston Quarter Cemetery, Whitehaven
IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE LATE PINGNEY BEWLEY DIED JUNE 13TH 1900 AGED 72 YEARS
ISSAC PINGNEY BEWLEY THEIR SON DIED JUNE 18TH 1910 AGED 51 YEARS WHO WAS INTERRED IN THE
KRUGERSDROP CEMETERY SOUTH AFRICA.
If you write to me off-list Mary, I will put you in touch with someone who has a lot of research on this family.
Best wishes,
Jackie

You may not need to visit. If you go to www.reayw.freeserve.co.uk and click on "holme cultram" (I'm assuming bowness is in that parish) there are quite a few pingneys and Bewleys covering back to 1663.

Thanks very much. That should be a great help.

Hello Jackie,
Wondering of you could point me in the right direction, you post above about Pingney Bewley you said you followed his family closely? Are you able to pass on any of this information from the Bewley side?
Pingney is my Great, Great, Great ... Great grandfather, his Son John Watson Bewley came to Australia in not to sure when but have just located Johns death certificate and it shows Pingney as Father and Mother as Margarett Kirkbride.
If you could at all help my father and I shed some light into his family history we would both be very over the moon!!

I hate to jump into this uninvited but I am confused.
Pingney Bewley (born c 1833) Death is Reg, Dec 1871, Manchester, 8d 179, Age 37
FreeBMD has him Reg as PIGNY Bewley
Will was Probated 22 March 1872, Carlisle, Date of Death was 01 Dec 1871.
Left everything to Wife Margaret.
(Margaret is a Widow in 1881 Census)
So who was the Pingney that was Buried 1900?
From what I can see it was Margaret Bewley that was Buried June 1900, age 72.
Welcome to Rootschat KBewley :)

Hi Kayte,
How lovely to hear from you. I typed a very long reply before I realised this was on the main group and not private message so I've had to delete it all as it contained email addresses and other private information.
I'll contact you off-list.
Best wishes,
Jackie

Hello again Kayte,

Hi Kayte, if you scroll to the very top of this screen, you should see (top right)
"Welcome back, Kayte" followed by how many messages you have and how many new ones. You should be able to click on that and it will take you to your messages. I've sent you a couple and my email address is in one of them.

Hi Kayte,
You need to post on here 3 times before the Person Message system is activated :)
-
She can receive them though, surely?

HahA! I found it, computers are obviously not my strong point!
