Ken,
Welcome to Rootschat.
1900 US Census for Greenport, Southold, Suffolk, New York done 16 June [Series: T623 Roll: 1166 Page: 238]:
Christian, b. July 1870, 29 yo, married 4 yrs, b. New York, parents b. Germany. HisOcc: Marine Fireman. Renting home.
Kate, b May 1876, 24 yo...b NY, parents b Germany
Mildred E. b Jan 1898, 2 yo (dau)
Christian, b Feb 1900 (son)
---
Unfortunately, there is no 1890 census for US (burned).
Couldn't find any Reicharts in Suffolk Co. in 1880 which might have led to additional info...
Exact same place in 1910 [Series: T624 Roll: 1082 Page: 252], but Kate is now "Katherine E" and son is 10 yr old "Elwood C". Christian is now a painter.
AHA! 1920 [Series: T625 Roll: 1268 Page: 268]
Christian is a Widower living with the family of Philip King, and is listed as a brother-in-law: so presumedly Kate's maiden name is "King". Philip is a 62 yo fisherman. So Kate died between 1910 and 1920.
And now...
1880 [Series: T9 Roll: 935 Page: 516]
same place, Philip is the 22 yr old fisherman son of Lewis (50) and Ella (46) King, he born Wurtemburg, she born Baden. Lewis is a farmer. BUT NO Kate!
I'm going to end this now since it appears to need more work on determining where Kate is in 1880...
Nick

Don't assume that Kate's maiden name was King just because Philip King is Christian's brother-in-law (although it may be the case). Philip could have been married to a sister of Christian's or even a sister of Kate's and still be Christian's brother-in-law. Other possibilities are that Philip's wife Mary and Kate were sisters or that Mary and Christian were sisters.

1900 census also says that Christian and Kate were married 4 years and she has 2 children 2 of which are living, Kate's parents born Germany.

Hi Aghadowey...
Yes, I realize the brother in law bit is a little sketchy...
I did mention 4 year marriage and parents b. Germany. Two kids was implied by listing them.

Sorry Nick- didn't see married 4 years under Kate and thought it wasn't included. 2 children obviously in census but also says there were no other children who had died.

If you go to www.italiangen.org and look under the vital records databases, there is a listing for a Suffolk County marriage for Elwood C. Reichart and Lena E. Fanning on 24 Sep 1927.
There is a WWI Draft Registration Card for Elwood Christian Richard (maybe he changed the spelling of the name?) born 10 Feb 1900. I'm finding it a bit hard to read, but I think his nearest relative listed is Mildred Reichart. He was medium height and build and had brown hair and eyes. Maybe someone else can take a look and fill in the rest if you need it.
In 1930, Christian, age 59, was living in Greenport, Suffolk Co. He was a boarder, listed as a widow, and he was 25 years old at his first marriage. He was working as a laborer on an oyster boat and he was not a veteran.
