Could some kind person do a look up for me. I`m trying to trace William Herbert Palmer born about 1899 ( don`t know the area though I assume it may be Cambs ).
He allegedly married Lily Fuller on the 20th October 1920 at Upwell St Peter.
I`ve tried to locate his birth and the marriage on FreeBMD but can find no mention of either :( :(
Does anyone have the resources to check and confirm or deny any of these details please.
Many thanks Mrs.Coppertop

Hi CaroleW,
Many thanks for the welcome, your prompt responses and the details enclosed. ;D ;D
Unfortunately I don`t have access to the marriage certificate. The marriage date was written down in a note book. ???
The only other information I know is that he died in 1968. He had two sisters named Daisy and Beattie but again no further information to ages. :(
Sorry to be so vague but this information has been passed onto me by an elderly relative.
Many thanks Mrs Coppertop

Hi
Our replies crossed. The 1901 entry referred to above doesn't have sisters Daisy or Beattie (Beatrice) although they could have been born post-1901
You really need to buy a copy of the 1920 marriage cert as there are a huge number of Herbert Palmers born 1890-1900 on the 1901 census so we need to pin down a birthyear and fathers name to find him in 1901
-
I've had a look at the GRO index for 1968 and there is an entry in the June qtr aged 69 Kings Lynn
Did he die between April & June 1968 in Norfolk?
-
Thats got to be him ;D
I believe he was buried in Kings Lynn :-\ :-\ The ages tie in nicely as does the location.
I`ll ask a few more questions to see if there is any more information to confirm these details.
Many thanks CaroleW for your help so far

That would put his birthyear at 1898/99 dependant on the month of birth
Freebmd has no Cambridge birth in that year for a Herbert William
This is what there is
Mar 1898 Palmer Herbert William Woolwich 1d 1326
Jun 1898 Palmer Herbert William Aston 6d 327
Jun 1899 Palmer Herbert William Watford 3a 705
Mar 1898 Palmer William Herbert Winchester 2c 122
Sep 1898 Palmer William Herbert Leicester 7a 186

Definately have to ask some more questions and/or get a copy marriage certificate :-\
Have no idea where he originated from, I assumed Cambs but that was only an assumption. He could be anyone of the 5 Herbert William Palmers you have kindly listed :-\ :-\
Many thanks again CaroleW ;D

Just to let you know I ordered and have received the marriage certificate for Herbert W Palmer and Lily Fuller ;D ;D
Herbert`s father was George L Palmer. His mother was Edith ( nee Woollams ).
I`ve found George L Palmer in 1901 living in Rickmansworth with Edith and Herbert aged 1, also listed are Mary Palmer aged 37 (sister) George Woollams aged 5 and Lydia Woollams aged 10 ( step children ? ) Annie Palmer aged 6 ( niece ).
Don`t understand the step children :-\ :-\ as Edith doesn`t appear to have been married before :-\ :-\ and I can`t find George L Palmer in 1891 :( :(
Thats all for now. Will keep you posted if I find anything.

Hi
Per freebmd
Edith Woollams married George Palmer Dec qtr 1897 Watford
Hertfordshire Volume: 3a Page: 1074
-
Edith is on the 1891 census with parents Henry & Mary and she is single. They are indexed as WOODHAMS but image shows Woollams
The ref is Hertfordshire RG12; Piece: 1121; Folio 32; Page 13
Looks like the Woollams children on the 1901 could be illegitimate
1891 census - George Palmer is in lodgings in Hertfordshire shown as b 1866
Ref is RG12; Piece: 1121; Folio 11; Page 16
-
1881 for Rickmansworth
William PALMER widower 50 b Rickmansworth Labourer
George 14 b Rickmansworth Labourer
Hester 13 b Rickmansworth

Thanks very much for that information CaroleW ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;.
I`ve been upto the local library before reading your replies and found another Edith Woollams :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
In 1871 Edith Woollams is listed as 12 months and living with Emma Woollams age 27 and James Woollams aged 28.
Ref No RG10, 1383, 62, 27.
I then traced Emma and James Woollams 10 years later in 1881 and found Edith ( listed as Woollam ) aged 11.
Ref No RG11, 1440, 35, 16.
After this my time ran out :( :( :( :( :( I wonder which one is the correct Edith?? :-\ :-\
Many sincere thanks again CaroleW for your help and interest. ;D ;D

Hi
I think you know what I'm going to say - you need a copy of the marriage cert for George & Edith to establish her fathers name
Per freebmd
Edith Woollams married George Palmer Dec qtr 1897 Watford
Hertfordshire Volume: 3a Page: 1074
The only thing that's odd is that the Woollams family I found on the 1891 are not on the 1881 or 1901 census.
Before you commit to a marriage cert - I think you need to check the 1881 and 1901 for the 1891 Woollams family. I tried under Elsie as she was only 11mths in 1891 but there is no birth for her on freebmd and no death pre-1901
I also tried under Wool** b Rick** but no luck there either
