Hi Kopperknob,
This site is really good (though sadly it doesn't help you in this particular case, but might come in useful later):
www.geograph.org.uk
I came across it when I was looking for a farm in Worcestershire.
I suppose the farm might have changed name during it's history. You don't mention a rough date as to when the house/farm esixted.
If it has changed it's name you will be able to find the farm/house on an old map, and hopefully find the new name on a more recent one. The good thing about the above site is it gives map references.
If you still can't find your house/farm you could try phoning the local library to see if they might have something in their local history collection.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Good luck.
Kind Regards,
Paulene.

Try the library local to the house, I never cease to be amazed at what maps and other information they hold, and what verbal information that they can offer.

I used to go past it when I lived in Kirkby in Ashfield. There was a clothing factory near it, so I often travelled there. I remember there being a windmill (this is about 9 years ago. The farmhouse was in good nick too. I expect there must be even modern photos of it. Perhaps if you look for the windmill you might find it.

Are you referring to Ash farm in Sutton in Ashfield which was where the site of the current Ashfield Comprehensive school is ?
-
That depends on when the Comp was built and where it is. I haven't been to Ashfield for about 12 years.
-
Hi, if you remember it 12 years ago, it is not the same farm.
Ash Farm was demolished about 40 years ago. It was a farm dating back to the mid/early 1800s situated between Kirkby
and Sutton in Ashfield
-
Well it was certainly there 12 years ago. I used to go past the farmhouse and the windmill on my way into Sutton. I don't think it was an active farm and the windmill had no sails.

Obviously not the same farm or location

The original post was back in 2008 maybe Kopperknob has found what they wanted by now? I hope they come and post to let us know.
AnnesleyAl....Are you referring to Ash farm in Sutton in Ashfield which was where the site of the current Ashfield Comprehensive school is ?
But wouldn't that be classed as Kirkby in Ashfield?
duckweed....... are you thinking of the windmill that was at Sutton Junction and now demolished?
are maybe the one on Prospect Place, High Pavement and now listed?..... I thought you just might be right as there was property mid to late 1800's on High Pavement called "Ashfield House"..... but I think like a good many they no longer exist.
Re Ashfield House, High Pavement, Sutton in Ashfield
1881 - RG11/3315/26/page5 ..... Morgan F Hamerton, Physician & Surgeon, Ashfield House, Sutton In Ashfield
1891 - RG12/2652/22/page 4 - Robert Nesbitt, Medical Practitioner, High Pavement, Sutton In Ashfield
1901 - RG13/3137/17/25 - Robert Nesbitt, Physician & Surgeon ,Ashfield House, High Pavement
Robert Nesbitt, Medical Practitioner is still in Sutton on Ashfield in 1911, the house isn't named only given as High Pavement.
However, I think you are both wrong ;D
The actual name of "Ashfield Farm" only appears on the census after 1901 but tracing the family back to 1881 and although there is variation of address, it appears they are always in the same place.
Which makes the Ashfield Farm/ House here.... http://www.rootschat.com/links/0qmd/
Putting it's postcode in search here = http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html - to the right of the modern day map of the area there are the historical maps and the 1900/1901 map does show where Ashfield Farm was/ is.
