I have a John KELLOCK on 1871 Census & marriage cert.
John was b.c1848 Dumfries NB (north Britain)
father John KELLOCK, Cattle dealer,
can anyone help with more details ???
-
Can you post the full 1871 details please as there is no John Kellock b Dumfries 1846-1850 father John on either the 1851/1861 census
I can't see an 1871 entry that fits that profile - is it mis-transcribed on Ancestry
What was his mothers name on his marriage cert
-
1871 England Census recs.
John Kellock
b.abt 1848
pob.North Britain, Dumfries-Shire, Scotland
occ.Servant
res.St George Hanover Square, London
In 1870 John was married to a Margaret MADDOCK. She is also a servant at the same address.
The marriage certificate records John's father as John KELLOCK cattle dealer. No mother is recorded because this is an English cert.

I have looked at the 1871 image and it says Dumfries NB not Dumfries Scotland
There is a Dumfries in New Brunswick Canada
The only John Kellock with a father called John on the Scottish 1851 census was b 1849 in Kinross and his father was a Chelsea pensioner
Do you have them on the 1881 census

Wasn't North Britain the old name for Scotland ???

I have trackdown his widow Margaret on all the following Census records, and all the records before when she was Margaret MADDOCK, but I am now trying to locate John on the earlier records or perhaps his birth details.
John Kellock and Margaret Maddock married 22 Feb 1870 Liverpool Lancaster John occupation was commercial traveller lived 9 Parliament St Liverpool and Margaret lived at 3 Parliament St Liverpool no occupation shown for her.
Johns father John Kellock cattle dealer
Margarets father William Maddock Blacksmith.

Kellock is a name in the Thornhill area of Dumfries-shire where my Kellock side came from.
In 1851 at 3 West Morton Street, Thornhill, there is a John Kellock, aged 30, cattle dealer, born Morton Parish (Thornhill area). He may be the father. Parents were Robert, aged 60, and Elizabeth.
-
that seems to tick all the boxes but were is John jnr???
???
-
The John I mentioned does not appear to have married. It may be John jnr. was born illegitimate and had the mother's name at birth and later took the father's surname. This happened in my tree.
I have looked but cannot find a John Kellock born c1848.
