Does anyone recognise this public house and where it might have been?
My guess is Lower Marsh off the Waterloo Road. Anyone have any concrete evidence.?
Thanks,
Chilton.

If I remember I will ask my husband (but he is late home tonight!) as he used to work just off Lower Marsh, and may remember if there is still a pub there of that name. If I dont get back to you, and no one else has answered, then please remind me!

I don't recognise the pub but there was The Olive Branch pub in Minerva Street, Bethnal Green. A distant relative was a "general servant" there on 1881 census.

I'm afraid I don't know which it was but there cerainly was an Olive Branch at 63 Lower Marsh. There was also one in Tottenham, Grays Inn Rd, Greenwich...well, you can look at the 1881 census as well as I can! ;D

Oh, and also Crawford Street, Maylebone according to the 1901 census ;)
Perhaps if you drew up a shortlist, you could zero in on the right one by searching the licensing records.

Can you find A A Moss on 1901 census?

All,
I was searching for this name of Moss in my search engine; and there is beer retailer Ambrose Moss at http://londonpublichouse.com/LondonPubs/BatterseaEast/DoddingtonGrove40.shtml ; 40 Doddington Grove, Battersea. I have no idea of the name of the premises, many will never be found unless you visit the specific Petty Sessions Victuallers records which are gold dust for adding a pub sign (name) to a beer retailers.
The search engine is pretty good, and I will also try to add some extra detail to the Olive Branch in Lower Marsh as I can find it,

More info, an Ambrose A Moss is a beer retailer at 266 Southampton Street, Camberwell in 1919.
Again, I have no idea of the Pub sign - see http://londonpublichouse.com/LondonPubs/Camberwell/SouthamptonStreet266.shtml
The Olive Branch has been updated, thanks for the address change.

Hi
I'm wondering if this is the same pub occupied by a Samuel Chace, victualler The Olive Branch, New Cut, Lambeth (corner of Waterloo Place, Lambeth Marsh) sometime after 1816 and at least until 1821 (A2A sun fire insurance records). I've been trying to find out what happened to Samuel and his wife Elizabeth after that time without success. I think he was a gent in Cambridge Heath, Hackney Road in 1839 but I cant find him on the 1841 census.

Where can you get the licensing records from I am after details of James Hall The Rose and Crown Christchurch which I believe is around Waterloo and also him at the Wenlock Arms

Hi, I'm also interested in whether this pub is the one on Lower Marsh; I am currently doing research into the area of the market, its creation and history and of the area surrounding; I have found it very difficult to find images of certain pubs and the Olive Branch is one such establishment. If this is the one on Lower Marsh it will be very useful to me.
Many Thanks in advance.
John.
