I would think that it is probably "Chart" and there is a William & Jane CHAMBERS (she from Rainham) in Chart Sutton 1851 - do you have their details Alta?

The IGI has a submitted baptism for an Edwin CHAMBERS 4 Apr 1852 at Chart Sutton, Kent, which would tie in with a birth in Feb 1852, and the one on FreeBMD. Father William Baker CHAMBERS and mother Jane. William Baker CHAMBERS baptised 2 Mar 1827 at Chart Sutton.
William CHAMBERS married Jane KITCHINGHAM or Jane ANDREWS Mar qtr 1851 Maidstone 5 359
Edwin CHAMBERS birth Mar qtr 1852 Hollingbourn 2a 426. Hollingbourn registration district covers the parish of Chart Sutton.
The birth certificate will confirm his parents names, and the marriage for William BAKER will give the bride and grooms fathers names only. You can order these online. Delivery by post usually about a week to ten days outside the UK.
See in 1881 Canadian census Edwin and Elizabeth were in Humberstone, Welland, Ontario with 4 sons. If he married in England in 1874 must have left for Canada almost straight away.

There are a couple of Jane KITCHINGHAMs born in Rainham that could fit.
One bapt 3 Dec 1828 parents Henry and Eleanor. See here for baptism at top of page http://www.rootschat.com/links/032u/
One on the same page but at the bottom 1 Feb 1829 parents Henry and Ellen. Suspect it is the same one. There is a comment in the left side of the page for the first one something illegible and then 1/2 which could mean 1st Feb.
There are other bapts with Henry and Ellen and Henry and Eleanor as parents.

Thanks to all for the help.
I would like to see the 1851 census for William and Jane Chambers .
Canadian birth cert for Frederick James Chambers 1878 gives his parents as Edwin Chambers/ Elizabeth Croucher. There is a marriage for them on GRO indexes.
Elizabeth Croucher 1853 Hartlip was the daughter of James Croucher/ Emily Hales. I did have the ancesty of Jane Kitchingham Rainham so glad census gives Rainham for her birth place . Once again more connections betweeen the Hales/Chambers / Kitchinghams .
Best part is a link to a new place.- Chart Sutton- Maybe Alex and I can find our earlier Chambers .

With reference to the above comment, does anyone know who Emily Hales Parents were ?? In the 1841 Census she appears with Frances Hales (age 65) whose husband William Hales died in 1831 - but she already had a daughter named Emily born circa 1811, so was she a granddaughter ?
Thanks

On Emily's mariage cert. her father was listed as Stephen Hales pork butcher making Frances Hales her maternal grandmother.

Alta,
Many thanks for your reply. This solves another line of the many Hales in Kent,

I've looked at the 1841 & 1851 census for Chart Sutton, both Chandlers and Chambers there so it looks hopeful and of course my Robert Chambers/Chandler (G4 grandfather) born c1777 was in Hollingbourne, not a million miles away and could have been a stray to H/Bourne.
Would be good if Alta & I could get something out of this after our hours of searching for the illusive Chambers/Chandlers!!

My goodness all these names are familiar to me, I am a Kitchingham from Rainham in Kent, the Chambers and the Hales are very old Rainham families as of course are the Kitchinghams.
My dear old father died in February aged 90, last of the old Rainham Kitchinghams.
I have heard my mother and father speak of all these families.
Good luck with your search.
