Title: George Fisher Norwich Prison 1841
Post by: ticktock on Monday 24 March 08 20:46 GMT (UK)
Is anyone able to help?

I am Missing a George Fisher born C 1820 in Barton Mills Suffolk.

The only George I have been able to find is an inmate in the Castle prison Norwich.

Is there any way of finding out where this George fisher came from? Are the prison records available for this period?

His father George was born in Thompson Norfolk C1796 an the moved to Barton Mills where he and his family stayed.

The George I am looking for appears in Lincoln in the 1851 census working as a manservant & Groom.

He is the only member of the family that moved north his siblings eithe went to London or stayed around the Mildenhall area.

Thanks in anticipation

Steve

Hi Ev

Thanks for your interest.

All I have to go on is the fact that our George appears on the 1851 Census in Lincoln living at 71 Bailgate with his wife Harriet a local girl from Saxilby about 6 miles from Lincoln. On the census george gives his place of Birth as Barton Mills in Suffolk.

I have only been able to find one Fisher family in Barton Mills at this time, George & Frances (Ann).

I have a copy of our Georges Marriage Certificate dated 4th July 1848. George gives his fathers name as George Fisher and profession as a labourer.

Other than that I cannot confirm the relationship.

If someone can trace a birth or baptism for our George that would help confirm things.

I hope this information is of help.

Thanks again Steve

This may not have anything to do with your George, but possibly worth a ganders if you are desperate... There was a Fisher family living around Staveley, Yorks around that time because I have a George Fisher born there around <1867> I think.  ??? He married a relative of mine. Hope this is not totally useless info....
