Hi all
Im completley out of my depth on this one but I hope with your help I can find something!
A lot of you will have heard of my long suffering partner Joe..well he has been asking me for years if I could do a bit of his family tree for him and ive kept telling him how hard Irish family history is to trace especially when the info is as scant as what he has.....so this is the longest shot ive ever come across... ;D
He has....wait for it..
Janette(or Janet) Crawford b Belfast(Married a Patrick Burns 1939 in Birmingham/Warwickshire)
Her Mother Leticia Crawford who lived most her life in Belfast but could have been born Dumbarton/Scotland..and Leticias father was a minister!!!!Thats it..no nothing else..no DOBs zilcho!!!!
I will thank you all now just for reading this let alone spending time on it
;D ;D
Thanks
Jane

Could be worse actually- my grandfather's family came from somewhere in Co. Londonderry where there were green hills and a river but his sister couldn't remember the name of the place!
Have you tried looking for a birth for Letitia Crawford in Dumbarton area in Scotland? and could she have been in Scotland for 1891 and 1901 census?
Letitia's father the minister- any idea what religion? and would he have been in Scotland or Ireland? Also, was Letitia's maiden name Crawford or was that her married surname?

Hi..Ive managed to find another scrap or two to add to this info
Janet P Crawford was born 1917 in Belfast
Father John Crawford-Mother Leticia ? both beleived to be born in Dunbartonshire/Scotland
Not much more but hey yer never know!!

Forgot to add that John and Leticia were protestants...

Would John and Leticia have been married in Scotland? Think Scotland's People is the place to start searching for the family. If you can get the marriage of John and Leticia you will get an idea of their ages, parent's names, etc. and then someone could check Scottish census records (on Ancestry).

Christopher it might help to read through this thread:
Father John Crawford-Mother Leticia ? both beleived to be born in Dunbartonshire/Scotland
Crawford was Leticia's married name so her father the minister probably had a different srname.

What now ??? His surname could be anything :( If his successor was the Crawford who married Leticia we're flying otherwise we are stuck.

Yes Im sorry Christopher I made that about as clear as mud didnt I ;D ;D
All the info im getting is coming in dribs and drabs which I know is difficult
We dont know Leticias Surname before she married John Crawford nor have we any dates of birth or deaths for either.
Joe has a scrap of paper with 2 addresses on one says
L C
66 Premier Drive
Belfast
It could have been Leticias address but there again the surname Canning is a big part of the family so the C could be one of them.
Leticia died in Belfast..there again no dates but Joe remembers her as a small boy growing up in the 1960s but when his family came to England(1973) he cant remember if she was still alive
The other address is
53 Harding St
Belfast
Although not sure this is possibly the last known address of Thomas and Maria Burns(Their son Patrick married Janet Crawford/dau of John and Letecia in 1939 in Birmingham/England)
Thanks very much for your time Christopher

I know the last post was some time ago, but here goes.
I've recently uncovered my Crawford family and have a John Crawford, from 1911 Census:
John Crawford. Baptist. 21yrs. Upholster. Single. Born in County Down.
His parents (my Great Grandparents) were:-
William Crawford. Head. Baptist. 62yrs. Commercial Trader Tea. Married. Born in County Down.
Jane Crawford. Wife. Baptist. 62yrs. Married 43yrs (10 children, 7 alive). Born in County Down.
One of their children was born in Glasgow, Scotland - which suggests Scottish roots.
Maybe there is a connection?
