???
I am doing a bit of family research (hence me being on this site), and I am confused!
My great-grandad (George Horace Kitson, b 1880) had a sister Minnie, who I have found on the 1881 census (via the mormons site).
She was 2, a search on free BMD reveals she was born in December 1878,
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
~~~~~~~~
Births Dec 1878
~~~~~~~~
Kitson Minnie Sheffield 9c 432
but the mormons site reveals...
International Genealogical Index - British Isles
2. Minnie Kitson - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Female Christening: 24 SEP 1878 Sheffield, York, Yorkshire, England
which is before her birth. Which is likely to be true?
Any other help re Kitson would be greatly appreciated, this is from the mormons site

What freebmd / the GRo index gives you is when the birth was registered, not the date that she was born.
so a "December " record will contain the births for October, November December, and quite possibly the last bit of September too. The reocrds you have found look fine to me.

You are very lucky with that census record! It gives you Loukes as Clara Ellen's maiden name and her eldest daughter is Alice Elizabeth. As the eldest son is Willie, or William, after his maternal grandfather, there is reasonably good chance that his paternal grandmother was also an Alice Elizabeth.
I answered a query very recently about what a gas fitter would be doing at that time - the lodger is a mantle maker - by then it was a gas-mantle maker.
Pauline is, of course, 100% correct - there is no discrepancy between the two records. 8)

Thanks for the prompt responses and for clearing it up. :)
