Title: James COOKE - Kirk Merrington
Post by: hendo1976 on Sunday 16 March 08 16:14 GMT (UK)
Hello, I'm hoping someone(s) will be able to help or put me in the correct direction
the above James COOKE, Paper Maker who died at Hett Mill in 1806 aged c88yrs
is buried in the churchyard of St John the Avangelist, Kirk Merrington, Durham
he is my 8x Great Grandfather.

The family were a very prosperous and respected in Hett and Kirk Merrington.
But I would like to know what Info is on James's stone which i have located and
is still standing after 200 years but  I'm afraid partly readable. The only thing which is are his name and alittle of his date of Death I'm interested to find out who if anyone else is buried with him.

The grave is situated not far from the entrance to the churchyard
and is with a few other COOKE family members in a row so obviously a family plot.

Many thanks in advance,

Famgen

Hi
Have you been in touch with Durham record office to see if they have a transcription for the MIs in that particular churchyard?    The Family History group may have one too.
Presumably he left a will if he was quite prosperous so that may be very informative.
