Title: Newspaper Hoarder wanted!!
Post by: Lady Di on Saturday 15 March 08 08:51 GMT (UK)
Hi All,

I know these are the days of recycle everything so I'm not holding my breath.

I would really like an original copy of the SMH (Sydney Morning Herald) dated 16 Feb 2008 (death notices).

I can download the relevant death notice from the SMH web site but would really prefer an original for my records.

Hopefully someone still has one somewhere - Please!!

Thanks
Di

Di

If you have no luck these folks in Melbourne may be able to help - I have bought their presentation packs for a couple of family events and the service is impeccable. Not sure about just buying the paper but an email would no doubt resolve.

The other alternative would be to wait until the paper is filmed & then you could get a scan - not quite as good as the paper, but better than a transcript

Thanks Trish and Jenn,

I had forgotten about the Melbourne service Trish. If all else fails I shall try that one. Looks like a lovely idea for family celebrations.

At least I was able to download a transcript from the "Notices" site that you supplied Jenn. Thanks for the links.

I will keep my fingers crossed for an original but at least I have the original of the obit that was published today.

Many thanks for your help

Di

Used to work for a newspaper and usually you can contact the newspaper for recent back issues which can be posted out for a small fee- the sooner you contact them the better.

Thanks aghadowey - I will contact them immediately.

I didn't realise that it might be that easy.

Fingers crossed and thanks

We used to get those sort of requests all the time so it shouldn't be a problem when you ask them (as long as they don't have a very short time that they keep extra issues).

Hi All

Curious to know whether the Newspapers from Paperworld are the originals or just a photocopy.

Cheers

And probably much more expensive than getting paper direct from publisher.

A bit tricky to get a 1923/1941 paper from the publisher. The main idea is to use them for anniversaries & similar. I got one for the date of my parents marriage for their 60th anniversary. It is somewhat cheaper than diamonds, for those of us without untold wealth  :(  and  was a great success. As I said, the service is impressive.

I mentioned it to Di purely as a backstop, if there were no other options.

Yes, Trish, but I was only talking about getting a recent issue.
