Hi,
I am hoping to find descendants of the O'Keefe (sometimes spelt O'Keeffe or Keefe) who lived in the Roath area of Cardiff from about 1870 onwards.
The father of the family was Timothy O'Keefe (sometimes called Edward O'Keefe) who was born either in Cardiff, Bristol or at Sea (as different census' state) in about 1849. He was the son of Jeremiah O'Keefe from Ireland.
Timothy married Florinda Maria Mazzei (1852-1916) in Cardiff in 1869.
They had 3 surviving sons who's descendants I am hoping to trace. They were:-
Timothy O'Keefe (1874-1933) married Sarah Ann Elworthy in Cardiff in 1903 and had 8 children:-
1). Florinda Catherine O'Keefe (b.1904);
2). Timothy James O'Keefe (b.1905);
3). John O'Keefe (b.1906);
4). Frederick O'Keefe (b.1908);
5). Alfred Thomas O'Keefe (b.1910);
6). Agnes Linda O'Keefe (b.1913);
7). Ann Eileen O'Keefe (1915-1996);
8/. Joseph O'Keefe (b.1918).
Timothy was living at 29 Ruby Street, Roath at the time of his death in 1933.
John O'Keefe (1879-1930) married Elizabeth James in Cardiff in 1900 and had 10 children:-
1). William John O'Keefe (b.1901);
2). Timothy O'Keefe (1902-1992);
3). Elizabeth Ellen O'Keefe (b.1904);
4). Ann Mary O'Keefe (b.1906);
5). Florenda Benodona O'Keefe (1908-1909);
6). Mary Agnes O'Keefe (b.1910);
7). Beatrice Mary O'Keefe (1912-1914);
8/. Thomas George O'Keefe (b.1914);
9). Frederick O'Keefe (1916-1992);
10). Daniel Alfred O'Keefe (1918-1991).
Thomas O'Keefe (1883-1941) who married Agnes Mabel Jenkins in Cardiff in 1918 and had 4 children:-
1). Mary O'Keefe (b.1919);
2). Bernard Rocco O'Keefe (1920-2004);
3). Ellen A. O'Keefe (b.1922);
4). Terence O'Keefe (1925-1944) - Terence was killed in Normandy in 1944 aged 19.
Thomas was living at 6 Caerleon Road, Gabalfa at the time of his death in 1941.
If anybody is a descendant of these O'Keefe's, I would love to hear from you.
Regards,
Darin, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.

Hi Darin,
My interest is in the Elworthy line (Sarah Ann Elworthy was my father's 2nd cousin). If you want to know more about this please let me know, though I suspect it may be peripheral to your main interests.
Regards,
Garry

Hi Garry,
My main interest does lie in the O'Keefe line rather than the Elworthy line.
I do, however have a photo of Sarah Ann Elworthy with her husband Timothy O'Keefe, taken around 1910ish.
I also have a copy of her marriage certificate,
Thanks,
Darin.
-
Hi Darin,
Thank you for the photograph which I agree looks to be about 1910. Re. Sarah's children, I have:
Florinda Page died 1943
Timothy J O'Keefe died 1981
Frederick O'Keefe died 1909
Alfred T O'Keefe died 1960
Agnes L O'Keefe died 2002
Joseph O'Keefe died 1937
All Cardiff or S Glamorgan. Not sure about John O'Keefe.
Regards,
Garry

Hi Darin I am interested in OKeefes keefe Edward m Mary Regan daughter Margaret b 1870 Wales and a son Thomas , we now have information that they came from Wales not Ireland to New Zealand . The family came to New Zealand 1870s , Margaret stayed m 1892
her parents left New Zealand about late 1890 1900 > In 1904 a paper report says Margaret says she is the only surviving member of her family .
The B- D dates below are about the parents dates
1-. I have found a Edward Okeefe b 1846 Medhyr Tydfil d 1907 Glamorganshire
2- Edward Okeefe 1846 d 1900 Pontypridd Glamorganshire
Mary Regan b 1848 Neath Glamoganshire Wales a death i have yet to find and a m date
we have yet to have this verifyed as a link to our Okeefes.
I wondered if you have a family connection to them . The B- D dates above may have a connection to our Okeefes .
-
Hi,
That O'Keefe line isn't connected to mine.
I have had a look, and think that this is your family in the 1871 Merthyr Tydfil census:
Name: Edward Keeffe
Event Type: Census
Event Date: 1871
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Relationship to Head of Household: Self
Birthplace: Ireland
Schedule Type: Household
Registration District: Merthyr Tydfil
Sub-District: Merthyr Tydfil, Upper
Parish: Merthyr Tydfil
County: Glamorganshire
Household Gender Age Birthplace
Self Edward Keeffe M 30 Ireland
Wife Mary Keeffe F 28 Ireland
Daughter Mary Keeffe F 10 Ireland
Daughter Elizabeth Keeffe F 8 Ireland
Son William Keeffe M 5 Dowlais, Glamorganshire
Son Paterick Keeffe M 4 Dowlais, Glamorganshire
Son Michael Keeffe M 2 Dowlais, Glamorganshire
Daughter Margaret Keeffe F 0 Dowlais, Glamorganshire
Lodger James Regan M 22 Ireland
If it is, their 2 eldest children were born in Ireland, so I think that is where the marriage would have taken place.
Thanks,
Darin.

Thanks Darin
I hope this is the right ones matches up will have to check this out . Family have not mentioned any other family names a Thomas but it could be a second name .
Are you able to find what occupation Edward had . on his daughters m certificate states he was clerk . I have a Edward Okeefe in NZ Electoral Voting Rolls in Auckland 1896 then no more in the next .Nobody in the family knows when the OKeefe family went back about 1900 my thoughts to Wales
Where can i find the information about the mentioned Okeefes this is a great find .
thanks so much
-
Hi,
Unfortunately my ancestry subscription has expired so I am unable to view Edward's occupation.
Maybe one of the other rootschatters can help.
i'm betting if this the right family, then the James Regan (aged 22 - lodger) is Mary's brother.
Are you sure Edward and Mary didn't die in New Zealand?
If the Edward on the census is right, then there are no Edward Keefe's (or variant spellings) that died in Glamorgan that would be the right age.
Do you know for sure the family lived in Auckland?
Thanks,
Darin.

Can you help me solve a 101 year old family mystery??
So, My Great Aunt (adopted) was Patricia Wallace born 1918 29a Mill Street in Caerleon, Newport. She was born Patricia O'keefe and was the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth O'Keefe a Municians worker in Newport.
Patricia's Birth Cerificate has Elizabeths name and address and then there is listed as the informant Elizabeth O'Keefe mother and the address is different to where it states thats she is the mother (that address is 217 Chepstow Road, Newport)...
So, I want to trace this family line and try to solve the mystery about when Pat was adopted in to the Wallace family - as yet I cannot find any formal documents.
Also there was a family rumour that she had an affair with Wallace and that was why he adopted the baby... as he had five children of his own (although only two older sons living at this time).
We want to work out which O'Keefe family Elizabeth was a part of, and more about the Christening - not sure where those records would be?
I would be really interested to hear if anyone can match our Elizabeth with any records or information that you have :D
Thanks in advance,
Michelle

Ill have a look to see if I can see anything
-
I can see she died in Cardiff in 1959 aged 41 and her name is given as both Patricia O'Keefe AND Patricia Wallace

Hello Michelle
My Husbands OKeeffes spelling is correct , i am having to correct the information i was given .I understand as in NLI Fermoy Cork Townland Labacally 1841 B Edward OKeeffe , Mary Regan i understand b 1843 . A marriage i have names are written in lattin 1858 2 daughters b to them in Cork no research has been done for them Mary Elizabeth , this family moved to Merthy Tidfel Wales about 1860 4 more children b 3 sons 1 daughter Margaret 1871 who is my late husbands grandmother . The family all came to NZ on the ship Forfarshire 1875 to Auckland . 1 son William Drowned age 17yrs 1884 2nd daughter Elizabeth died 1887 Mary the wife nee Regan died 1896 all are buried in one ,the Catholic Graves Symonds Street Auckland NZ , Mary the eldest d 1898 she had married .Edward OKeeffe no death record for him in NZ 1895 Elect Rolls last information for him,Family information given was wrong , they under stood Micheal 2nd youngest had gone back to Ireland , proved wrong he died in Auckland 1946 his information entry at the undertakes records father Edward OKeeffe mother Mary Regan her mother Mary Morrison Cork . Patrick i havent researched ,I believe the death record for a Edward Okeeffe 1900 Dublin may be our Edward who went back ., the Micheal as family had been told had gone back untill i had the real proof he didnt .. So many Edward OKeeffes ,, Reading an old reply on the Wales census form 1871 James Regan lodger was Marys brother .So apart from Patrick and Margaret OKeefe m Charles Gordon 1892 Napier NZ only family i know about .
