Hi,
is it possible to buy medals from WW1 belonging to my Gt Grandfather? I have looked up his medal card on Ancestry.

I would check with the MoD to see if they were issued. If not you could claim through there. Write to:
Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency
Ministry of Defence Medal Office
Building 250, RAF Innsworth, Gloucester GL3 1EZ
If the medals have already been issued and mislaid, there are plenty of places to purchase good quality replicas from. Check out e-Bay for a guide on prices.
This may also give you some information:

Good luck,

4. Replacing and Claiming Medals
* It is no longer possible to replace campaign medals issued for service before 1920.
* Replacement of medals issued for service after 1920 is still possible.
